Its against the law to use Pirates and World Series in the same sentence...
it wont but its doesnt matter how many "prospects" we ever get b/c, they will eventually get traded away anyways... pirates players use the organization as a bus stop... just hanging around untill something better comes along
Well the World Series is the goal, not .500. You dont sacrifice the long term goal for .500. This is how small teams operate, they don't wait for FA and get into a bidding war that they will lose. You buy low sell high until you have the horses to take a shot, then you sacrifice a couple prospects to go for it. So once again explain how these trades were bad moves by the club? Nady was not going to stay in FA, Bay reverted to his all start form from his terrible year last season, his value was extremely high. Take the top quality guys for him now before he goes back to being terrible. These prospects are not going anywhere, its the way the system works you earn their rights for a long time.

World Series is the goal, but thats hard to accomplish if you cant even get to .500 first
Judging and speculation on the actions of this group based on the actions of the previous group is unfair and wrong. Other teams have proven this to be a successful model. We should not sacrifice long term success just to get to .500 if the World Series is the goal.Quote:

IMO The Pirate franchise doesnt have the same "goals" as the other small market teams in the Majors...
I feel the Pirates are just a place for prospects to "bloom" and then they get traded away for more prospects (which is what the minors are for, devolping talent)... now im not saying go and blow a bunch of money on overpriced/overrated "big names"... Im just saying other franchise can be small market and be competive and we seem not to be... i guess its just frustration over years and years of losing... It be nice to see the Pirates FO committed to winning in the ball park not just on the finical(sp?) report.

Moss and Laroche both hit their 1st HRs with the Bucs. Laroche looks like he has some awesome power, and I think Moss will benefit from the short porch in right field. And even Hansen pitched pretty well until they took him out. Add Jeff Karstens 6 shutout innings against one of the best offenses in baseball, and so far the guys we got in these trades are looking pretty good.
Karstens pitched 7 2/3 perfect innings and finished out a 2 hit complete game shutout last night, that makes 15 straight scoreless from him...
