Let's get one thing straight... This is not a Super Bowl XL Revenge or Grudge game! These two teams have new faces and new staff that weren't even a part of the game. For example, Mike Tomlin... he may have been at the Super Bowl but he definitely wasn't coaching on the sidelines for either team. Another example, where are the two biggest trash talkers that were in the press everyday leading up to the Super Bowl? I'll tell you... one is with the Dolphins and the other is with the Buccaneers!

So what do we have here... we have two 3 and 1 teams that have both been beat by the Cardinals! A potent offense going against a stout defense, and a "get the job done" offense going against a "won't keep you in the game" type defense! The Steelers and Seahwaks are pretty evenly matched although this game will more than likely come down to the Steelers running game and the the pressure the Steelers D can apply on little Matty.

FWP fell from the leading rusher in the NFL to the fourth spot. However, he is only 28 yards behind and he can make that up easily especially against the Seahwaks who are giving up just over a 100 per game. As long as FWP can get it going and the o-line can open up those big holes then the Steelers will be fine. Speaking of the o-line, I hoped they worked on pass protection this week because because I've seen better pass protection from High School teams! The one good thing though is Ben seems to be deadly when he is flushed out of the pocket, you can always anticipate something big from him when he starts scrambling around. It's that one big hit on Ben that concerns me, although with Batch the Steelers would be fine but as a fan you never want to see your teams starting QB go down. On a side note, it is looking like Ward might be returning to the lineup this weekend, still no word from the Steelers camp.

Last week the Steelers defense took a huge hit in the injury column. Troy, Hampton, McFadden and Hoke all left the game for various reasons. The only person ruled out this week is McFadden with a high ankle sprain. The Steelers defense needs to do what it does best... pressure the QB and cause havoc on the offense! Sparking a couple turnovers and maybe some defensive touchdowns would be good too, help out my fantasy team. The defense seemed suspect last week with the quick release of Warner which allowed the Cardinals to methodically move the ball down the field. Matty doesn't have the quick release and more of a drop back in the pocket QB, so this does fair well for the Steelers assuming Diesel can turn some of those hurries into sacks, although the hurries wouldn't be bad because Matty can't scramble!

Keys for a Steelers "W"

Get the ground game going.
O-line needs to give Ben time
Avoid the "young dumb" penalties
Apply pressure to Matty.

Interesting Facts

Seahwaks lead the series record and have won 8 of 15
Matty has won five of past six starts vs. AFC teams.
Pittsburgh has not allowed 100-yard rusher in 25 consecutive games.
Steelers had 11 penalties last week, same amount as over first three games.
Pittsburgh has won seven consecutive vs. NFC at home.

One interesting thing to know about the Hawks this season. They have not run the ball at all in the first half of any game. Almost 75% of their ground yards have been in the 2nd half. I can't figure out a good explanation for it. I think they are averaging 4.4 yards per carry in the 2nd half and only 2.7 in the first. I am sure hoping they can establish a running game early on in this one.

I am worried about the "dink and dunk" passing though.

While I don't see them running too much on us, I can see Hasselbeck having a pretty good game. Our secondary, despite all the talent it has, is still our weak spot in the D, those dudes can come up to support the run, but God forbid they cover anybody...lol.

I think the game comes down to Seattle passing game vs out passing D, and I can't pick against the Steelers so I will say 21-17 Steelers, but I honestly think it could be the other way around.

I hope Casey Hampton isn't to hobbled with the hamstring because stopping the run starts with him.
I think Hasselbeck will have a good day if the Steelers don't get to him early and often.

All homerism aside with a banged up Hampton and Polamalu this game is a toss-up.
I believe we'll see Seattle follow suit like the Cardinals.....sell out to stop Willie Parker and make Ben beat them in the air???

great...w/ troy and bryant out, it's gonna be hard to stop the passing w/ dashea and ike in there...and w/o hines, santonio is left all alone again w/ nate and cedric rotating on the other side...it would be great if we can pull through and go into the bye week, 4-1

I'm nervous too.... I definately think the Hawks can do it. But you guys are home and coming off a dissapointing loss. But you guys are also banged up. I see a defensive battle. Hasselbeck is able to put together a few drives with lots of short passes. TE Marcus Pollard gets some key catches. Seahawks win 17-13. :crossfingers:

Hawk Believer

But they prolly can't keep that up all game. We are pretty deep at WR.

K Train
10-07-2007, 02:22 PM
we are deep at safety even without troy we have 3 guys that could be starters. and i wanna see gay step in for mcfadden

Hawk Believer

Do you guys tend to leave the starting DBs in the whole game or do they get rotated to give them some rest?

we have zero depth at corner and safety so i'm guessing they'll be worn out for y'all to score on us in the second half

and damn arians is ****ing worthless, his play calling is almost as bad as whiz's was............

10-07-2007, 02:32 PM
you know, maybe troy is our weak link in the secondary, casue his style of play is best suited when he's going crazy around the line of scrimmage, he isn't really a good cover guy and since he's blitzing and **** our secondary is a man short and the teams are able to bomb on us all day...........

Hawk Believer
10-07-2007, 02:35 PM
Are the Steelers keeping more people back on D? This whole no front pressure and stifiling secondary seems odd to me.

We need SA to step up and establish himself to keep your DBs honest.

10-07-2007, 02:36 PM
smh, willie is a ****ing bum, he's only good when we play the ****** teams, and it's obvious he has not improved from year to year cause he still can't play against decent defenses

and our special teams ****ing sucks complete dick

What a game, we had an awesome time, our seats were the best, I will post pics later. This was the loudest crowd Iíve seen since the Pats AFC game a few years ago. At one point, probably after that long 3rd quarter drive, they played that song/video that starts out in slow motion in black and white and then went to color and full speed, all showing great hits. The crowd went nuts and got real loud. It lasted until the end of the game and led directly to a motion penalty on Seattle.

We sat in our seats after the game abd watched everyone exit. We also watched the ground crew..that was interesting. We had been told they sod after every game, not the entire field, just certain places that have been dug up. They have this machine that puts the sod back, really kewl. The field looks beautiful. Oh also, Steely is a thing of the past, he is not on the field at all. We were told he got booed so badly (the 1st home game) and kept getting in the way, that now he is inside only. Then someone from the event staff kicked us out. Now I can say I have been kicked out of the best place in the world. :)

Acheman and Buck commented on that during the telecast. Troy," They really know how to pump up their crowd here at Heinz Field..." explaining the video you talked about.
He also commented on how quiet the fans get for the offense here. From a quarterback, and he was not a bad one, that is a pretty heavy compliment!:tt02:
