Steelers RB Has Run-In With Cleveland Police
(KDKA) CLEVELAND Steelers RB Najeh Davenport had a run-in with police Thursday night in Cleveland.

The situation apparently stemmed from a custody dispute involving his 5-year-old son. Davenport reportedly had court paperwork stating he could pick up the boy for visitation but there was some type of dispute.

That’s when Cleveland Police were called. Both the woman and Davenport called 911.

Police there are still at the scene trying to sort out what happened. Davenport reportedly was placed in the back of a police car; however, we’re told he is not under arrest.

Davenport is a backup running back to Willie Parker and so far has 159 yards rushing in four games, including a 40-yard touch down run against the 49ers earlier this year.

The Steelers signed him to a two-year contract extension prior to the start of this season.

Doesn't sound serious, at least I hope not!

At least he's trying to SEE his son--rather than trying to act like he doesn't have one...

Much better than being picked up for a crime of some sort!

I agree BBG--doesn't sound like it'll be a problem.

What's his son have to do with him and his contracted job with the Steelers.
Does he know what lawyers are for. With the kind of money he makes he shouldn't be running around the Tri State with wife and family problems.
Beside with the start he got off to he should be at the practice facility working to improve his game. So he has a two year contract, for a guy who doesn't know what a block or a smash is that contract seems like another Steeler blunder.

Sounds like he went to pick up his kid and the exwife probably wanted to start something and then it escalated from there. Hopefully it just blows over and nothing more comes of it.

Its to bad for the child, that he has to see police and all the commotion. Parents need to get along for the sake of thier children.

Looks like it's all good...

(KDKA) CLEVELAND Cleveland Police say an apparent custody dispute lead to an altercation between Steelers Running Back Najeh Davenport and the mother of his 5-year-old son.

The trouble apparently started when Davenport went to pick up his son and told the woman that he was filing for full custody of the boy.

According to authorities, Davenport had court paperwork stating that he could pick up his son for visitation.

Davenport told a Cleveland television station that the woman, identified as Anita Person, pulled his son out of the vehicle and ran.

Witnesses claimed there was a physical scuffle and assault,.

Davenport, however, says he never touched the woman and only retrieved his child.

Police did not arrest Davenport and authorities say no charges will be filed.

Unfortunately this stuff goes on all the time. I see it multiple times a week on my job. We have "regulars" that have to come to the police station in order to exchange their children, with officers present, because they can't be adults and handle their own business. I can only imagine how this makes the children feel....????

wow that sounds horrible. I don't understand why grown adults can't put aside their differences for the sake of their children.

wow that sounds horrible. I don't understand why grown adults can't put aside their differences for the sake of their children.I agree with you but in all fairness sometimes it is one party who is just so unreasonable that the other has no choice. Very sad for the kids though. I guess in actuality it's better than a verbal or physical confrontation.

Police Release 911 Tapes Of Davenport Dispute

LISTEN TO THE 911 TAPES: http://img.viacomlocalnetworks.com/images_image_281093753 Witness (http://kdka.com/video/?id=32650@kdka.dayport.com) | http://img.viacomlocalnetworks.com/images_image_281093753 Steeler Najeh Davenport (http://kdka.com/video/?id=32654@kdka.dayport.com)

(KDKA) PITTSBURGH Cleveland police investigating a domestic dispute involving a Pittsburgh Steeler have released 911 tapes from three people – including one from a witness who described a man punching a woman.

According to police, an apparent custody dispute led to an altercation between Steelers Running Back Najeh Davenport and the mother of his 5-year-old son, Anita Person, last night in Ohio.

A woman who asked not to be identified told emergency dispatchers about "a situation" in which a woman and "her baby's father" were arguing. "He was just punching all on her and she was screaming, 'help.'"

The anonymous caller went on to say that the man "keeps circling around the block."

Davenport, however, denied the claims that he hit Person -- telling a Cleveland television station that he never touched the woman.

He says the trouble started when he went to pick up his son for a custody visit. He says he had court paperwork stating that he could pick up his son for visitation; but Person grabbed the little boy out of his moving vehicle and took off.

"I got a court order to pick up my son," Davenport told a 911 operator, "and when I came to pick him up, she said I had to take him as is – with no clothes. And it's in the order that she has to provide clothes for him."

"When I left," Davenport added, "when I was pulling out with my sons in my car. She jumped in my car to take him back.. out of a moving car!"

Police did not arrest anyone involved in the incident; and authorities say they do not plan to file charges. The parties involved, however, could still pursue charges against each other.

I'm sorry, but under no circumstances should any adult act like that and put their child in the middle of anything. It's sad when a court order has to spell out who provides the clothes and the mother would even think of sending her baby anywhere without them, let alone pull him out of a moving vehicle. That really breaks my heart. I just wish for the best for that little boy!
