Steelers Name 2007 Team Captains

PITTSBURGH The Steelers named four players today as team captains for the 2007 season. One player was selected as offensive and defensive captains, and two were selected for special teams. The players were selected by a vote of their teammates.

For the fourth consecutive season, LB James Farrior was named defensive captain. WR Hines Ward was named offensive captain for the third straight season. LB Clint Kriewaldt was named special teams co-captain for the third time in four seasons and will be joined by fellow LB James Harrison, who received the honor for the first time.

Maybe James Harrison has some of the leadership qualities that Peezy had, after all??? :dunno: Congrats to all.

Good choices.
We all knew Farrior and Hines were going to be captains and Clint is one of the few returning special team specialists he makes sense.
As for James Harrison it is good to see that his fellow players think so highly of him I thought it may have gone to A. Smith, Troy, or Casey.

:dunno:Thought Troy might be put in the mix - but maybe he's just too low key in his off-field demeanor?:dunno:

I'm glad Harrison made captain ,he played well this preseason ...... he's a big presence out there. Can't wait to see the first suflex, I hope he watches the human steroids on WWE the night before the game. Maybe he''ll take notes and do one of his favorite finishers.

Those are pretty obvious choices. Clint is our best ST player, bar none now with Chidi gone. Farrior is a leader on the field and as good as they come in the middle. Hines, well he's Hines.

Harrison was a bit of surprise since he's a starter now at LB but still, he's well respected on the team and our LB needs leaders like that.

Players select team captains or does the coaching staff?

The players were selected by a vote of their teammates.

That right there is all that matters.

so will we see the C patch on these guys jersey's or is the steelers not going to make them wear it...

09-11-2007, 07:23 PM
probably not because they have the 75th Anniversary path on the jersey's now too

09-11-2007, 07:25 PM
thanks AZ.. I am not sure how I like the C patch and I thought it would be a little to much with the 75 year patch we have on there already...

I don't really see the point for the C anyways. I mean these guys know who the leader is and they know who they voted for. Goodell said he brought out the C for the captains so the players would know to take more of a leadership role and hopefully take it more seriously.

All good choices, no surprises.
