View Full Version : Jeff Reed... Cause for concern or no ?

He had a dismal preseason but a good camp. Since he became our kicker he's been pretty automatic from anything 45 yds or less, and his further kicks have been good enough the majority of the time. He missed that would be normally easy FG for him on thursday night so it begs the question; has he lost something or maybe just in a slump? or was that missed FG just that, a missed FG and he'll be fine?
Im hoping its the latter and he pulls it together and I have every bit of confidence that he will because we'll need him every week to be on the money as much as possible.

i don't know, we still need a kicker with a boot, i like him for field goals, but the miami kicker was kicking into the endzone and reed couldn't do that if his life depended on it lol.....he's also getting fat lol, he's gonna look like the raiders kicker lol

You brought up a good debate there, Matt. I can't say what the ordeal was with Reed, but that was a rare mistake coming from him. I hope this isn't a vision of the future to come with that kicker. OH THE GRIEF!!!

Jeff was kicking short on kickoffs last year too and he wasnt much better on thursday. It's odd because the guy has such a strong leg but he just never seems to boot those into the endzone or even inside the 10 yd line with any type of regularity

He always looks like he is just kicking the ball instead of driving it if you know what I mean. And I am a little concerned with the FG's right now. He missed a couple in the preseason and now starts the regular season off 0-1. And a bad one! I guess we'll see how he does from here on out.

Maybe he needs to go back and revisit that rainey cold day 2 years ago when he auditioned for the job and won it by making those FG's !

If they need a speedy running back for backup to Willie and a healthy one, sign me up. I will blow Foster's record clear to the Moon.
It isn't easy to be a kicker. I've tried it and I could only kick as far as 45 yards. It is a tough job.
I think we might need a kicker in the future if Reed keeps messing things up.

Yeah just last year they extended it if I remember correctly. Let's hope that hot hand, or foot as it were, doesn't cool off anytime soon.

Well there will never been anyone who kicks 100% effectively at Heinz, I've been there many times when the winds are going in 30 different directions. The miss he had on Thursday was below bad and was almost as bad as Vanderjagt's miss last season.

If I'm correct he kicked that FG on Thursday into the open end of the stadium which is never an easy kick at all.

He missed it in the 4th quarter so weren't they going towards the closed end then? 1st and 3rd they were going to the open I think because Miami had the ball first.

We all talked about this during preseason and thought it might just be a slump so we kind of ignored it. Now, here we are after the first game and we are talking about it again. To bad he only attempted 1 because we can't really debate if it is a slump or not... given his preseason though, I'm going to have to say Reed is officially in a funk!
