Bill Walsh, who guided the San Francisco 49ers to three Super Bowl championships and six NFC West division titles in his 10 years as head coach, has died at the age of 75.

Walsh died early Monday following a long battle with leukemia, according to Stanford University, where he served as coach and athletic director.

It's a sad day for all of us who are so passionate about NFL football, and football in general. Bill Walsh was a master innovator and teacher of the game that we have grown to love. I plan on offering my condolences to the 49er faithful on their message board, on behalf of all Steeler fans. A very sad day.

Out of all the coaches I've seen interviewed, he was the one I like the most as far as personality, presence etc. He brought a lot to the game, a lot to the guys that played under him, and he touched a lot of lives in different ways from everything I've heard and seen. I'm sure he'll be greatly missed.

That man has done as much for football as any coach in history, and more than most. He was an innovator and a literal football mastermind. The sports world has lost an icon today.

RIP Bill Walsh !
