Timmons reaggravates groin injury. Read on.

First injury
The first injury of this Pittsburgh Steelers training camp reared its ugly head Thursday and it's somebody the team can't afford to miss much time.

First-round pick Lawrence Timmons aggravated his groin injury that kept him out of the team's offseason workouts midway through Thursday morning's practice and spent the remainder of the session with trainers John Norwig and Ryan Grove testing the injury.

There's no initial prognosis, but the injury didn't seem serious and Timmons looked to be staying off the field more as a precaution than anything. But given the fact that he missed all of the OTAs and most of mini-camp, it's certainly something that is going to hold him back in terms of his growth as a player.

The injury came just a few plays after Timmons, a linebacker, made his first big play of this camp. Dropping into coverage, Timmons jumped a pass in the flats in zone coverage and picked off the Charlie Batch ball, making a juggling catch along the sidelines.

The highlight of the morning was a new twist on the backs on backers pass-rush, pass-protection drill. This time, it was safeties and nickel backs rushing the running backs.

The offense looked to have gotten the better of it, but Troy Polamalu and Anthony Smith were everything but unblockable, beating practically everybody they went up against.

Polamalu even beat unofficial blocking champion Dan Kreider in a heavyweight matchup. He uses a variety of spin moves and looks more like a defensive end rushing rather than a safety.

Smith, meanwhile, was just explosive, running through people to get to the QB. He hits like a truck.

The offensive star of the drill was Carey Davis. The first-year running back went 5-0 in the drill, even stopping Smith on the final attempt of the drill. Smith slipped coming in and never really made it to Davis with any force, but the young back already had stoned Ricardo Colclough, Bryant McFadden, Harrison Smith and Deshea Townsend.

Perhaps that's why Davis is the only surprise player on the No. 1 punt coverage team ? where he plays one of the wings.

QB Ben Roethlisberger looked sharper today. He made a great pass deep over the middle while rolling to his right to Hines Ward. Ward had gotten behind the safeties and the duo made it look easy.

Ryan Clark was back working with the No. 1 Okie base defense this morning.

Also of note is that sources tell me that running back Kevan Barlow, signed as a possible backup to Willie Parker, is the worst character guy the Steelers have had since this source has been here. That dates back nearly 10 years.

The players are also upset that they do not have a scheduled day off in the first two weeks of camp. They're not complaining publicly about it - yet.

Damn, well I guess it's better that it happens now than later in camp.
He has to be frustrated. He just came back from the injury, signed his contract and began camp and now this.
Hopefully he doesn't miss a lot of time.

Damnit, I knew this was going to happen. As long as it took him to recover the first time it was bound to happen again ! :cursin:

Barlow might as well and pack his bags....Bad character players don't usually last with the Steelers....especially players that have bounced around like Barlow.....I have read some good things about this Carey Davis......he could be a guy worth watching this training camp/pre-season...

As for Timmons its way to early to knock the pick....But I wasn't thrilled with the Steelers picking 15....I made that clearly known before the draft....Thought the Steelers should have tried to trade up or down from 15.......With Timmons and his on going groin injury to bad we couldn't turn back the clock...lol

The Steelers should stay away from Florida State...lol Only Bryant McFadden really has shown anything....

Lets review.....

Alonzo Jackson=bust
Willie Reid=battled foot injury last year in his rookie year....hopefully stays healthy
Lawrence Timmons=on going groin injury........yes it appears not serious....But Kendrell Bell was never the same after his on going groin injuries.....lol

Like I said to early to knock the pick of Timmons....But some doubts are starting to form.....Wasn't high on Timmons before the draft...Like what I read of him after the pick and how the Steelers planned on using him.....So hopefully he can stay healthy......

Bryant McFadden has been solid, and Chris Hope was a good player as well. Both were FLA St. products.

Well y'all are just paragons of compassion aren't you? :smh2:

If you read the article, it said the injury did not appear to be too serious.

That said, however, I think he might have tried to do too much too soon. Furthermore, he was not going to get too much PT as it was, so maybe this will give him the time to rehab properly so he can start making a contribution. Don't throw the kid on the trash heap so quick, guys.

Nobody is throwing Timmons under the bus or saying that he's a total bust but being that he missed the entire offseason of workouts and now will miss some more time in camp it doesn't bode too well for the 1st round pick trying to help the team.

I still have all the confidence in him in the world that he'll be a standout for us, he just needs to get healthy.

Jackson went to Florida....now thats funny....
Explains why he's been a bust after everyone had high hopes in the kid....
I know alot of Steelers Fans would have like to have seen him in Black & Gold. :yesnod:
I'm riding with you BG32, I never had high hopes for Timmons before the Draft and I don't have Hopes for him now.....
I just wonder if/when we will have to add him to our Top #1 pick Bust List.

Its a free country we can do what we want...... I don't think anybody is throwing Timmons on the trash heap either...Just commenting on his on going groin injury......which is getting old already...lol Just play football....Visions of Kendrell Bell keep racing in my head.........Bell also had an on going groin injury.......

Dude I do like some things about Timmons........especially with how the Steelers want to use the kid....But if you can't stay on the football field then you're no good to the team.....If Timmons wants to contribute at all this year then he needs to be on the field at camp/pre-season......When I hear groin injury....I think Kendrell Bell...........Bell was never the same after his battles with groin injuries......

I think Timmons needs to give Barry Bonds a call and then Bonds could rub the clear or the cream on Timmons groin....that way Timmons can stay healthy...lol

..............Not at 15 though....We could have traded down and drafted Timmons or Spencer....lol

Man I'm not giving up on Timmons yet............Just having some fun with this since he wasn't the initial guy I wanted the Steelers to draft.......

I wanted Revis,Joe Staley or Anthony Spencer in the first round.....But oh well can't turn back the clock...Just have to hope Timmon's can stay healthy and prove he is a badass...He has the talent....just needs to stay healthy.....

I agree, it seems like groin injuries always reaccure too easily.

How about the Barlow comment? If true, I say cut our losses now with him.

If this was a veteran player who has already proven himself it would be a lot less of a concern. This is a rookie who has already sat on the sidelines watching all the OTA's and now this. First preseason game is a week from Sunday and Timmons will probably still not have recovered from this latest tweek. He will still make the team just because of where he was drafted. No way the team gives up this fast on their #1 pick. Last I checked potential never won a game or made a tackle. Bottom line is this kid has got to get his a** on the field and play. Sure hope Tomlins first pick doesn't turn out to be a bust! Even so I think Woodley is gonna be a beast!
