The Steelers' players will have relatively spartan accommodations during training camp when they stay in the dormitories at St. Vincent College near Latrobe. Here is what a handful of players said when asked what is one thing they have to have at camp.
Hines Ward, wide receiver: a picture of his son. "It's something I keep by my bedside and kiss every morning when I wake up and go to practice. He's my motivation. I want him to grow up and say 'My dad was a great football player.' "
Ike Taylor, cornerback: a Bible and a Playstation. "I read the Bible every day. That's just something you've got to do."
Sean Mahan, center/guard: a TV: "I've got to have some outlet where I can think of something besides football. It's a little release because training camp is all day, nothing but football."
Max Starks, offensive tackle: a Bible. "It's one of those things to escape from the rigors of day-to-day training. We're blessed to be in this position, and when things go wrong or it gets tough out there you can always look to the Bible. It always gives you inspiration."
Nate Washington, wide receiver: a TV. "No I take that back, a computer. I have to have Internet. I love playing on the Internet, anything from e-mailing, MySpace, playing little games on the computer to YouTube."
It's interesting to see how the players keep themselves occupied when they aren't on the practice field.
