Steelers Release Veteran Punter Chris Gardocki

PITTSBURGH The Steelers released 16-year veteran punter Chris Gardocki from their roster today, it was announced.

Gardocki (6-1, 192) signed with the Steelers prior to the 2004 season and was the team's punter the past three seasons. Originally drafted by the Chicago Bears in the third round (78th overall) of the 1991 NFL Draft out of Clemson, Gardocki played four seasons with the Bears, four seasons with the Indianapolis Colts and then five years with the Cleveland Browns before coming to the Steelers.

Gardocki has never had a punt blocked in his career, booting a league-record 1,177 times without one being blocked. In his three seasons with Pittsburgh, he had 199 punts for 8,369 yards (42.1 avg.), including a long of 65 yards.

In his 16 seasons, Gardocki punted 1,177 times for 50,336 yards (42.8 avg.) and was named to the Pro Bowl following the 1996 season. That year, he posted a career-high 45.7 punting average.

Out with the old and in with the new. I thought Tomlin and the FO might hold onto him a little longer so that he could teach Sepulveda the tricks of the trade in the NFL.

Let the ERA of the PUNTisher begin!!!

There's a surprise:lol:

They probably should've held on to him to help out Sepulveda, but I'm not surprised by this at all.

No, but I love to give him a word of advice and show him how to flip the bird off to the Browns, Ravens, and Bengals Bench after each punt to tell em we mean business. :cope::cope::tt02::helmet:

no that would just show a lack of class not business.........kids watch the games, we don't need no punter flipping ppl off

chris will probably retire, i don't see any teams that need a punter, especially a washed up one

No, not a shocker, but outside of last season, Gardocki was good for us. Good Luck Chris.

Yes, Koopa, I know. You think the kids wanted to see Gardocki flipping us off when he was a Clown? That still burns me to this day. I don't care Steeler or not, you don't flip the bird at the Black n Gold. I still wished someone would of leveled his *** for that stunt. I know Jack Lambert would of taken his knees out for that one. :haha: :haha:

Yeah this was no surprise at all, the hand writing was on the wall since draft day. I think Chris will probably just retire. He's made his mark in NFL history, just fade off into the sunset....
