Did you ever think Peyton Manning could win a Super Bowl and not be much of a story the following spring?

Manning led the Indianapolis Colts (http://www.sportsline.com/nfl/teams/page/IND) to their first Super Bowl victory, getting the giant monkey off his back, and yet nobody is talking much about the Colts.
It's the New England Patriots and all their moves.
It's the San Diego Chargers and their coaching changeover.
It's the Baltimore Ravens and their new runner, Willis McGahee.
It's the Denver Broncos and their offseason moves.
Oh, by the way, the Colts are the defending champions.
Yet all you hear about the Colts is how much they've lost this offseason. The skeptics say they've suffered too many hits.
The reality is they are a better team than they were a year ago, which is why they are atop the latest CBS SportsLine.com Power Rankings.
Is that lunacy?
Not really. The two corners, Jason David and Nick Harper, were just OK players who were covered up in their Cover-2 scheme. They will be easily replaced by Marlin Jackson and Tim Jennings, or Kelvin Hayden, the player who had the fumble return for a touchdown in the Super Bowl.
No loss.
Weakside linebacker Cato June was a solid player, but if he was so good why didn't he get a multi-year deal from another team when he hit the market? Here's why? He's just OK.
That can be replaced.
As for the loss of backup running back Dominic Rhodes, that might be felt some but it should mean more carries for Joseph Addai, who is clearly a better runner. The Colts are considering bringing in a veteran backup, but as long as Addai is healthy they will be even better running the ball in 2007 than they were in 2006.
Then there's the addition of first-round pick Anthony Gonzalez. The Colts lacked a slot receiver last year when Brandon Stokley went down with an injury, which is why Gonzalez made sense. He will come in and immediately give Manning a speed threat inside.
In the playoff run they used Dallas Clark flexed wide in a lot of sets, but that won't be a necessity as much with Gonzalez.
So the offense should be better.
The defense might start off slow, but once the young corners get up to snuff that side will be fine, too.
That's why the Colts stay in the top spot in these Power Rankings. I considered moving the New England Patriots into the top spot, like everybody else has -- including Vegas linemakers -- but the thing that stopped me was I can't get the vision of 32 Colts second-half points in the title game out of my head.
Yes, the Patriots have added some nice offensive pieces and a couple of defensive additions that will help, but I still think there are flaws on that defense.
For that reason, the Colts come out of the draft as the team to beat.
After all, they are the Super Bowl champions.

we're 11? welll, I guess that is to be expected, we just came out of a mediocre year, and with the coaching changes, much higher would be suprising. i still think we will put together a playoff run though.:yesnod:

i guess cause they think now that palmer has not recently undergone surgery, he may be a better team.
doubt it, that would require having players be able to stay out of jail.

Considering the Steelers didn't make the playoffs but yet they start off in the top 12 I can't really complain! I can live with it, plus there is less pressure on the team :bigthumb:

I don't like starting near the top. This gives our guys motivation and we do have to prove ourselves this year. We will be near the top mid season....but even then it doesn't matter. All that matters is making the plalyoffs...and we all know what can happen next!

That's about where I figured they'd stick us..but you can read 10 different power rankings and they all have everybody listed different for different reasons.

I hate seeing the ratbirds and bungals ahead of us so we're just going to have to kick their asses this year and put a stop to that ! :cope:

Agree with the top 3. No way the Broncos are the 4th best team in the NFL. If they played the 7 teams ranked beneath them I feel they would be lucky to come away with a 2-5 record. Also don't think the Cowgirls are that good either. Steelers and Browns are right about where they should be. :yesnod:

they were the worst team last year and now they are calling them the best team in the NFC West
either these guys are on the really good stuffand are wrong or the NFC completely sucks

Well we already know that the NFC completly sucks. The cardinals could be a team to compete with after their new additions, especially in the NFC. They would look like the browns were they in the AFC though. I heard today that the "experts" expect the cowgirls to win their division and possible go to the superbowl, but they did not go so far out on a limb to call them superbowl champs yet. its more like chumps to me though

what the ****?????? denver at #4??????????thats a ****ing reach, i like being underrated, we play better that way imo, but denver at 4 is ridiculous....cutler played decent but that shouldnt skyrocket them up the rankings

I never pay attention to the power rankings anyway. I'm suprised the Steelers are 11. I thought they would be around 15-16 since they are coming off a 8-8 season and with Bill Cowher gone. According to some the end is near since Cowher is gone.lol I find that total crap and I think Tomlin will be great.

The Broncos are way to high and I think the Ratbirds are also to high. They lost Adalius Thomas and both Ray-Ray/McNair are a year older. Plus they lost some of their Oline. They did draft Grubbs though. I don't know I think the Ravens are going to be 9-7 or 10-6 at best this year.

I've always enjoyed them hyping up a team to win the super :yesnod:

Example----Superbowl XL was suppose to be the colts :lol:
Superbowl XLI was suppose to be Chargers :lol:
The list goes on & on........ :popcorn:

That's about where I figured they'd stick us..but you can read 10 different power rankings and they all have everybody listed different for different reasons.

And the Sheagles should be ranked about 24. They are going to suck. That Receiving Core is down and their line is going stink. McNabb is going to have the season that Roethlisberger had on the field. Philly will go about 4-12. Washington or New York comes out of that division.

This makes sense....I think 11-15 is where we belong right now. We have too many question marks at this point.
