Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

The Steelers announced today that running back Willie Parker has signed a new four-year deal to remain with the team through 2009.

Parker, a third-year pro from North Carolina, set a Super Bowl record with a 75-yard touchdown run in the third quarter against the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XL.

Financial terms of the contract were not released.

Parker became a starter for the first time in 2005 and rushed for 1,202 yards, the sixth-highest single-season total in team history. He averaged 4.7 yards on 255 carries and scored four touchdowns in the regular season, and also caught 18 passes for 218 yards and one score.

Originally signed by the Steelers as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2004, Parker has rushed for 1,388 yards and four touchdowns on 287 carries during his NFL career, including six 100-yard games.

This is great news! Cowher must becoming a softy though because he usually likes to see what a player can do after having a breakout year. Willie must have fell under the "Maddox Exclusion to the Rule" clause ;)

Willie will be awesome again and more than likely will topple his total yards from last year! Fo needs to focus to start focusing on Ike now...

Good to hear this and it's great to see he's sending a message that he wants to spend his career here in Pittsburgh. He's such a great athlete and I'm glad we signed him longer.

This makes a lot of sense, because if he has the year many of us think he's going to have, he'd be commanding a MUCH higher salary next off-season.

This is only the beginning..if Willie continues to improve and become one of the elite backs in the league, his next contrac could be atleast triple that.

One of the true great stories in the NFL got what he deserves. I mean from undrafted rookie RB...to NFL starter and a 1200 yard season...to setting a Super Bowl record. The Willie Parker story is a great story and I'm so happy the Steelers gave him this new contract.

Congrats Willie. You are one of my favorite players. I know you will even have a better year this year.
