SA Grades the Draft
http://www.marfan.net.au/images/report%20card%206H%20smallest.jpg

this is the brainchild of southernstar.....a cowboys writing machine...at cp. so have fun with it.

Rate our draft in depth. Give EACH SELECTION a grade in FIVE AREAS.

Player = Give a 1-100 grade based on what YOU wanted at that point.

Round = Give a 1 to 100 grade based on WHEN this player was taken. Should it have been later? Deduct accordingly.

Ability = give a 1 to 100 grade based on how well this player compares to the OTHERS in the draft at his position.

Need = Give a 1 to 100 grade based on what the team's NEEDS were.

Future = Give a 1 to 100 grade based on whether he'll be on the roster 2 years from now.

Copy this form and paste it into your post and simply add in your grades. Please "preview" your posts BEFORE submitting. Copying the instructions (then deleting them before you submit your post) will make things easier.

Later, we will average everyone's posts and come up with the final SA Draft Grade for Pitt

ppl, don't sleep on mcbean, he's still raw, and from everything i've read on him, it leads me to believe down the road we'll have a monster on our hands, probably to replace smith on the line

The way this works is you give your ranking from 1-100 on the player rated in your opinion at that position. your rating of the round he was picked in . his ability. the need of the pick. and then the future.

Rd|Name|Pos|Player|Round|Ability|Need|Future | Thoughts|
1|Timmons|LB|80|95|90|100|95| He has a ton of upside and is a true boom or bust player|
2|Woodley|LB|90|95|90|100|90| He was very productive at Mich and should help the pass rush|
3|Spaeth |TE|85|25|85|25|60|Picking in round 3 should be for starters. Not career backups|
4|Sepulveda|P|95|90|95|95|100|strong leg with a LB mentality. We needed a new punter|
4|McBean |DE|80|80|80|85|80|He is a tough kid who with coaching should have a nice career|
5|Stephenson|OG|80|75|85|100|70|He will have every chance to make the team and eventually play|
5|Gay|CB|70|75|70|90|70|Smart and aggressive player who is underrated. Has legit shot to make team|
7|Baker|WR|70|75|70|70|70|Florida WR with good size. Without ST play he prob wont make the roster|

Timmons and Woodley were brought in to bring Youth and pass rushing ability to a front 7 that badly needed it. I am fine with that but at 15 Timmons was a little reach. I feel that he is a boom or bust type of player but he is also the second youngest player in the draft behind Okoye at 20 years old.

I understand that people will say "well Arians wants another TE etc etc etc". The fact is that you don't draft on day one for career backups. With Heath on the roster he is at best a #2 TE. I know he could do this or see the field because of that but I don't like this pick at all. A day 2 TE like Ben Patrick would have been fine with me.

Trading up for the punter was also fine with me. This guy has a big time leg and also is not afraid to hit you. If you don't believe me then I will find the clip of him hitting a 51 yard punt and then sprinting down field to lay the return man out. we needed to get rid of Gaydocki and his 35 yard line drives.

McBean is a tough kid who moved around a lot and actually does not have a drivers liscense. He is a raw player but a tough player. I really think he will make it at least as a backup player. He could also provide us with the ability to use a Hybrid defense.

With Faneca and Simmons in the final year of their contracts and the fact that Simmons has been just awful and Faneca wants out he really has a shot to make the team this year and possibly start next year. He will have to come in and compete and show them what he has. He was a good player at Rutgers.

William Gay didnt run a blazing 40 time (something around 4.48 to 4.5) but he is a smart player who is actually a good fit for the Tampa 2. He is an aggressive player and to me a sign that Tomlin is thinking about making a move to the Tampa 2 sooner rather then later.

Baker is a big guy at 6 foot 3 208 pounds but he also will have a tough time making the team. He does not play ST from what I understand and his age (25) probably does not help him much. I think he could make the PS at best but thats about it. Just about everyone we drafted except for Baker in my opinion has a legit shot to make the roster.

Thoughts.........I can see Timmons, Woodley, Spaeth, and Sepulveda all in our starting line up next year. I think that Gay will get his shot eventually and McBean could develope into a good DE. Stephanson was a need pick and i dont see him filling in a spot on our line. Baker was just anouther tall Wide out that will fail to make it through pre season.

Timmons....... He has so much potential to be even better then Joey, but the fact he only has one year under his belt scares me. I feel he could have been picked up later in the draft. But if there was no one willing to trade down overall I like this pick. Boom or Bust.

Woodley........If Timmons fails this guy will overshadow him. He will need to get in LB shape, btu I feel he will learn quickly and become a force in our D-fence. I would have liked to trade up and get a good OL man like Blalock, but yeat again if there was no one willing to trade overall I like this pick.

Spaeth.......... This guy is a monster. He will step in day one and become an asset to our team. Sure everyone wanted a RB at this spot because Hunt and Bush were still on the board, but this guy will soon change your mind. He is a awsome blocker and has soft hands. Just think about this.........What 2 LBS in the nfl can cover 2 TE's over 6'5. Spaeth will improve are red zone numbers day one.

Sepulveda.......... This guy was a steal at this spot and will become our punter for a long time. NUFF said hes a beast.

McBean......... Has upside, but I think the talent level in the nfl will blow him out of the water.

Stephanson............ Will have some starts under his belt this year. Has the tools to become a good linemen. I feel the Steelers picked him just because they wanted to draft a OT/OG and this guy was highest on there boards.

Gay........... If he makes the team look for him to be a solid CB if nto next year the year after. But he has to beat out some solid CB's that have already established there spot.

Baker........... Has to beat out some solida Wide outs. I dont see him making our squad.

ppl, don't sleep on mcbean...

I gave him pretty good numbers I think--I'm willin to give him a chance, and he does sound pretty good on paper. I haven't seen him actually play--wish I'd gotten to see all those guys play in college, but we don't watch college ball. The only one we watched was Ohio vs Florida I believe...

Baker........... Has to beat out some solida Wide outs. I dont see him making our squad.

Cedric Wilson makes perhaps one or two catches a season that are noteworthy (at least IMO), so if this Baker kid can show us something, I'd like to see him have Ced's spot. To me, Wilson's a good backup, and that's about it.

:plus1: Wilson never impressed me either and it would'nt hurt my feelings if he was off the roster. Nate Washington has shown more signs of life, on the field, even though he has dropped some passes I would still take him over Ced.
Wilson is always more concerned with drawing a pass interference call and arguing with the refs than actually going for the ball, downfield.:cursin:
