Bonds Belts Career Homers 736 and 737
By Associated Press

PITTSBURGH - Barry Bonds hit the 736th and 737th home runs of his career Friday night in the city where he began his career 21 years ago, homering on consecutive at-bats in the second and fourth innings against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Left-hander Zach Duke became the 436th pitcher to allow a Bonds homer when the San Francisco Giants left fielder hit a line drive just inside the foul pole down the right-field line in the second inning, a two-run shot.

Bonds hit a longer drive in the fourth, a shot into the right-center stands off Shawn Chacon, Bonds' third homer of his career against the right-hander. Both homers came when the count was 1-1.

Bonds needs just 19 more homers to break Hank Aaron's career record of 755.

Bonds was off to a slow start _ he carried a .192 average and only one homer into the game _ until he singled once and homered twice in his three at-bats Friday. With the Giants up 8-2, he was lifted after homering in the fourth.

Of Bonds' 737 homers, 96 have been hit in Pittsburgh: 89 in Three Rivers Stadium, where he played with the Pirates from 1986-92, and seven in 39 at-bats in PNC Park, which opened in 2001.

Bonds now has 70 career multihomer games, leaving him two behind Babe Ruth's major league record of 72. Bonds also moved ahead of Ruth and into fifth place in career total bases with 5,802.

Interesting read about a future hall of famer ??....89 home runs in 6 seaons !! ...7 in 39 at BATS .... can you say HGH ??

Bonds has single handedly made a disaster of this whole record setting year. This should be one of the biggest celebration years in sports history, but because it's Bonds and all the controversy surrounded him it's almost as if nobody cares because it's tainted.

I think it is still amazing there are a lot of other players out there that have done the exact same thing and they could not match what he is doing. I am glad to see the record fall to Bonds, even if they do put an * beside it in the record book

It's a dam shame ... He can play ball and this should be a good time for baseball...maybe there will be more attention when he gets closer...

His own team hasn't even planned an official celebration yet for when he breaks the record, last I heard :nonod:

Still appreciate that he was a part of Pittsburgh's winning tradition when he was here....just wished he had juiced up a little earlier so we could have had the benefit of the juice during the playoffs.....

Ok I care about him breaking the record and you know what Mr. Bonds has been my favorite baseball player since I was a little kid. I'm more of fan of his when he was truely a great all around player instead of just a homerun hitter like he is now.

Yes roids and HGH helped Barry Bonds and alot of players. But when you think about it I'm sure the pitchers were juicing as well. So it was leveled playing field in my mind. When you look at 756 its still a ton of home runs. Another thing I should mention Bonds didn't go to the American League to become a DH to break the record. He is still playing LF at his old age.lol

I read somewhere that Hank will not be at the celebration should Bonds break his record. Steroid use to me is cheating, it causes an unfair advantage over your opponents. I agree somewhat BGF32 that some pitchers are roiding but not every pitcher Bonds has faced was doing it. Probably a very small percentage. Thats the reason athletes are athletes, they were born with the ability to play ball, to get juiced to make yourself even stronger or faster ain't right.

The sad thing is Diesel we won't know how many players did cheat or not. So they all get lumped together. I agree its not right but Pro Sports has become big business and thats the only thing that matters to most of them is the money. The purity and integrate went out the window along time ago in Pro Sports.

:plus1: With athletes being bigger, faster and stronger naturally, its a shame that some of them have to resort to juicing up. I bet they don't have any mirrors in their house. Me personally, knowing I got something by cheating would wear on me.

Well me to but we are not pro athletes with large egos.lol We all know Bonds has had a very large ego for some time. His ego is larger then his head that keeps growing every year.:bluelol: Thats another problem these athletes think they are bigger then the game.

Will Bonds make the Hall? Mark McGwire was denied, mainly, it seemed due to the way he refused to answer questions put to him by congress. Should they make the Hall? How about Pete Rose? I have a hard time with these questions myself, but I really dont think you can keep them out. I mean if it was proven that Babe Ruth had juiced, would they remove him from the hall?

Bonds has had some 1,000+ more at bats than the Babe. So, is it justice to say he's better because he had more time and more juice? No. Bonds has cheated, lied and should be banned from the game forever even if he comes clean he should still be banned. Bonds screwed us over and I'm tired of this fat-a** and that circus he is putting on in SF. He's not there to win a Championship, he's there to break a record because he knows no other GM would take a chance on him.

Barry Bonds is the only players in major league history to hit 500 HR's and steal 500 bases. Hell he is the only one to go over 400 in both stats. He is a Hall of Famer no matter what.

Nothin against you but it kills me when people think that Ruth was juicin. How ridiculous is that? There was never any of that kind of talk back then, anyone can search the newspapers of the 20's and 30's and you won't find any headlines or articles of athletes on steroids. Its a shame that instead of dealing with the problems of today, people want to divert attention and point fingers at the past and say "what about him? he was doing it to" with no proof. Its real easy to do that instead of these athletes of today grabbing their nuts and saying "Yeah I did it".

Mark Mcgwire hasnt been totally denied yet , He has like 15 years to get in and only will not make the ballot if his total voters voting for him drops below 10 % in a single year then even then theres a veterens commitee that could vote him in( I hope he doesnt make it though).Pete Rose should make the HOF I dont care what anyone says, and Babe Ruth didnt use steroids and if anyone claimed that they are ignorant. Even though Steroids were invented back in the 30's there that would mean he played at least 16 of his season which were very productive , you should have included a name that was possible like say Hank Aaron even if he did use I think there's no way you can take him out of the HOF

Well any comparisons with Ruth and Bonds doesn't work anyway. Baseball is a total different game now then it was in Babe Ruths day. I'm not taking anything away from Babe Ruth he is truely one of the great American Sport Icon's of alltime. But during some of Ruths career ground rule doubles used to count as homeruns. You might as well put an * next to Ruth's 714 career homeruns?lol I'm joking by this of course I doubt Ruth hit more then 10 ground rule doubles in that time. Just saying from rule changes to fact that African Americans not being allowed to play in Ruths time are factors in baseball being totally a different game now. My point is you just can't compare the eras and its impossible to do so.

Barry has been my favorite baseball players since I was 8-9 years old.lol Even when he left the Pirates I still rooted for him. Now I don't agree with everything he has said and done. But its kind of hard to stop rooting for a person when you have been a fan of that player for so long.

I did not say that the Babe cheated of Juiced, just asked IF he had, and it was found out now would he be pulled from the hall? if not, then how can we keep people out for the same reason now

I loved the dude when he was stealing 40 bases a year. We all know he cheated, but so did almost everyone else during his time. I heard on ESPN radio that his shoe size has gone from a 10.5 to a 13.5 since he entered the MLB. That's HGH, but I don't care.

Yes I was more a fan of his when he was an all around baseball player. All I have to say there is only one person both in the 500/500 and 400/400 club. That person is Barry Bonds. Thats amazing to me that there is only one player in the history of baseball to hit 500 home runs and steal 500 bases.
