View Full Version : If we draft a CB in the first round

I already know that most of us would not be happy with a corner taken in the first round. If we did take a corner like Darrell Revis or Chris Houston, who's job do you think would be more in jeopardy?

I think Ike would be the one who needed to worry. I realize that he was just re-signed but forget about the money, who is the better cover corner? I like McFadden better. Ike has just been posterized too many times for me to give him the nod over McFadden.

I voted Ike. I think McFad has the potential to be a very good CB. I like Ike, but IMO his days might be numbered in the burgh regardless of his paycheck. But on another side, because of his contract, Deshea might be the one on the hot seat. Ike is still young, so he still might be 'trainable' under Tomlin.

I would say Townsend gets cut. He's a Cowher guy, on the downside of his career.

That's actually a tough question, but I went with Ike because he seems to get more burned than McFadden. Plus Ike can't close the deal when he goes for a pick.

ok ike had like 3 down games and he got benched, the whole team sucked ***, cowher didnt give a **** and sucked the confidence right out of him. Tomlin says he really likes ike. I would have to say mcfadden only because hes started like 4 games, it would probably be his job base solely on inexpierience. BUT i dont beleive there is a corner good enough to come in a start right away over these 2 guys and if tomlin drafted a corner in the first i would lose some respect for him right away because that would be him doubting his ability to work with the obvious talent that we have. Mabey get a corner like Tim Mixon in the laster rounds and cut cocface but our starters will probably be mcfadden and ike.

I say neither because Townsand should of been gone last year.:yesnod: But then again, What other veteran do you got?

if we draft a corner back, which we won't, then tomlin and colbert are the ones that need to be replaced...................... i put ike just to play along, but neither is gonna be replaced, tomlin is gonna turn ike's career around, even though he only had one bad year, which was pretty much a sophomore slump if anything, to give up on him only after his second year of starting is just retarded......... and mcfadden is gonna be crucial next year........and i like townsend, he adds nice depth and experience to help out the young guys

IMO,we'll draft a CB but can't see it in the first 3 rds.Townsand is a role model and w/out him, who do we have,Madison,Colclough,Iwuoma? (niether could step up to be starters though good enough for ST) no one that could bring experience to the team.

oh i know we'll get a corner eventually but the question was about drafting one in the first round, which we will not do

I would not be so bold as to make a statement like that. If they went with something other than a OLB I would be upset about it but as fans we have to trust that the front office knows what it is doing. Whatever they may do, it will be a part of a bigger plan or strategy that we may not be privy to. You may rant and rave about the picks we made and then the team could come out of the gate kickin a** and then who would look like the bigger fool? The front office that executed a plan that is working, or the fan that forecasted the teams demise? Tomlin and Colbert have been watching 100's of hours of game film analyzing each and every player and position. They know what our weaknesses were last year and you can be sure of that. They may have a darkhorse player that nobody else is looking at stashed away until the draft is over, who knows? Until we see the 2007 team in action we really won't know what we have and if last years weaknesses have been fixed. Lets hope that they are! :crossfingers:

there's no impact corners in this draft, just a bunch of overhype ****, hall will be a bust, revis played for a **** school, houston is just another player ppl are trying to hype up in a weak corner class..........

i guarantee you we will NOT draft a corner at number 15...............

Ok I don't understand the **** school knock on Revis?lol Hell Rashean Mathis went to Bethune-Cookman and he is one of the best corners in the NFL.

Hall is a bitch, im sorry i see nothing special there. Houston and Revis are good imo, Hughes and the guy from fresno are good, second rounders there. This is a terrible class for corners, as was last year. Tim Mixon in the 5th round and were set lol

BlackGold4vr

Only 5 positions can be absolutely ruled out for this years first round IMO.
They are: QB, S, P, K, NT

I think every other position could be considered in play.

I would like the picks to go in the following order:

DAY 1
OLB
RB
WR

DAY 2
P
CB
OT
ILB
FB
OG

oh i just wanted to talk **** about pitt, cause i don't like that school, cause i don't like the weak *** conference pitt plays in, cause i hate revis and his overratedness.......so **** pitt, **** revis, **** this corner class....................... and **** anyone that thinks we need a corner in the first round

houston and revis will be nothing special in the nfl, they may be good, but they ain't better then what we have and not worthy of being picked at 15.......

:iagree: If we were to sign another CB I think Townsend is the odd man out at this point. he's a veteran and a good presence on the team, I like him alot but he'd be the odds on favorite in my mind to be on the hot seat.

wasnt chad scott our last cb taken in the 1st round?

ok, i think bryant mcfadden is gonna be an animal for us, i think he was a great pickup and he learned the defense very fast, i also think cowher was holding him back....and tomlin should let him so us what he can do.

Ike will be fine, hes a great player despite how many times Javon Walker raped him, tomlin will do great things for him, and despite how much i dont really like townsend, he did have a solid year despite all the mess that went on. i think we'll be ok at corner, theres also cocface* who i think is dead weight and should be cut. But this madison guy on our roster...who knows, cowher kept us in the dark about so many players its not funny, we might learn alot about some of our players this year.

*note, i hate cocface, hes in my cedric wilson group

Damn K-Train you got a serious hard on for Colclough's demise huh? Anyway if we draft Hall, Revis, Houston or any other corner in the first round ill start puching infants!!! Hall is the only worthy corner of a 1st pick and not at 15, even though he will be gone before that i think simply for the fact some teams really need a corner and he is the only stand-out if you wanna call him that. We dont need a corner, we need more of a pass rush. When you run a zone blitz you will leave holes in the zone, its gonna happen, and with out a pass-rush your just setting your corners up for failure. The Steelers actually had alot more "coverage sacks" this year than usual. Ike is asked to cover the opponents best WR every week. He's gonna be MUCH better this season thanks to Tomlin. He has the physical make up and ability to be a top 5-10 corner in this league for years to come. McFadden is solid and will continue to get much better. Deshea will be the first off the bench which is a very solid back-up in case of injury. I think Colclough will be helped out TONS along w/ the rest of the corners by Tomlin. So WE DO NOT NEED TO DRAFT A CORNER DAY 1! period! This is not a easy defense to learn, so i dont think your gonna see a rookie come in and accel in the secondary. Even Troy had to be worked in slowly his first 2 years. Linebacker or D-line are the only positions that i think a rookie can have an immediate impact on this defense, look at the rookie year Bell had compared to the young secondary players we draft. Our 1st pick should be OLB/DE or WR in my opinion because those are the 2 spots where guys can come in ad produce right away.

You know I think when you have your pass rush sucking and then bad cornerback playing (Ike Taylor) then someone going to get blamed. Simple knowledge is if you have 2-3 guys blitzing someone’s bound to be open and if there’s no pressure to the qb then 90% of the time its a first down. So that’s where you can’t blame the secondary. but getting burned by Javon Walker and letting the Bengals pass all over you and losing the jump ball in the endzone is when you could blame the secondary. Id say give Taylor one more year to show what hes got, it doesnt need to be an extraordinary year just to show us he got what it takes which and I think Ike and Tomlin can absoulutly do. I don't know much about McFadden but from what I've seen he's looking promising. If we ever did draft a cb in the first round he better be the best CB in the AFC and thats not going to happen in this years first round. so I would disagree with a CB at round #15

K Train

ike is not a bad corner, i think you guys arent being fair to him. we were bad all together last year, why is it the ike gets most of the blame for everything? i bet you guys were all over his dick in 05 when he was tearing it up and being successful, last year sucked *** for the whole team, stop being so hard on ike :dunno:

because of Ike getting burned and losing the jump ball several times. Im not saying hes a bad corner he just had a bad year just like Roethlisberger but Ike didn't the excuses Ben had.

sure he did, in a way....cowher babied the **** out of ben, let him do whatever.....and cowher screwed with ikes head, and sucked the confidence right out of him. anyway, all of the secondarys problems leads right up to the front seven...its been said over and over again
