Carter officially signs with us!! This ends a bizarre series of events over the past 48 hrs. No details as of yet. Carters agent isn't returning anyones calls possibly out of embarrassment. No comment from the Steelers.

PHOENIX -- The Steelers have re-signed safety Tyrone Carter, director of football operations Kevin Colbert confirmed at the NFL owners meetings.

ESPN.com had reported earlier that Carter signed a three-year with the Chicago Bears but Colbert said the Steelers agreed to terms with Carter on a contract last Friday.

Carter, a seven-year veteran, can play both safety positions as well as special teams. He started three games for the injured Troy Polamalu at strong safety last season and did an admirable job.

Carter had 39 tackles and two sacks in 2006.

"It was important for us to keep him around and keep him in the fold," Colbert said.

Good for Tyrone!! :tt02:

Yeah, and good for us too! There seems to be a consensus here at SA that Carter was a keeper. His agent must be looking for a rock to crawl under if he had anything to do with the bogus signing report.

:tt02: hell yeah this is awesome. I like Carter alot. He's got experience and a ton of emotion. This eliminates the need for a safety in the draft which is one less issue to address.
