View Full Version : Bar has been raised for Troy's new contract

With the Seahawks giving Deon Grant a multi year 30 million dollar deal, the bar for Troy's new contract with us definitely went up. Polamalu is a better safety than Grant IMO and if the 'hawks were willing to pay up for him that much, then Troy's contract is going to have to be atleast comparable to that.

Now whether he'll actually ask for that munch money remains to be scene. Hines could have gotten a 40+ million dollar deal easily (and most likely a lot more) if he'd have left us but he chose to take a fair offer to stay with us which I know we all are sure glad he did. Troy will have to make the same decision soon, is he willing to take less then what somebody else will offer, just to stay with us?

Logic would tell you based on what we know about Troy that he would indeed take a fair deal like Hines did to stick around with the Black n Gold, however nobody ever saw coming or even thought Hines holding out, but he did. Sure he eventually gave in and inked his deal with us, but still, for as much as we think Troy will stay here for "x" amount of dollars, you just never know.

Personally I think whatever he asks for, we give it to him, but then again I said the same thing for Hines when it was time for him to get a new deal. Yes I think Troy is THAT important to our team.

I agree, he is important to our team. I read somewhere on the internet, about 1 year ago, that Troy's wife wants to return to california as she has family there.

Let his wife return, Troy needs to stay here! He has been the anchor of that defense for the last several years.

This whole thing about Polamalu is worrying me, but I have confidence in the Rooneys, they won't let him slip away from their grips. Troy is too valuable to lose.

Theres a rumor going around other players agents that Polamalu's agent Marvin Demoff wants 1 dollar more then Ed Reeds 6 year 45 million (15 million signing bonus) contract. Polamalu is definitely worth it, especially considering how good he is no matter what scheme we play.

As tight as the Rooneys are with their money, this is 1 dude that they need to open up the dusty checkbook for, blow out the cobwebs from the safe and give the dude what he's worth based on what everyone else in the league is getting and the fact that he's better than them.

Then again like I mentioned before, I said the same thing about Hines....

I don't think the Rooneys are tight with their money as much as they are smart, shrewd business people. It would be easy to run the Steelers with their hearts like us fans would do, resigning all the "fan favorites" cuz they've grown to love them and don't want to see them leave, despite the fact that their talents have gone south. I believe the Rooneys know what they have with Troy and they'll do whatever it takes to resign him.

It seems like other teams throw the bank at anyone with a pulse... It is gonna make it hard for the Steelers to sign their elite players when they are up for a new contract.

I am going to give the Rooneys a benefit of a doubt with Troy, I think they can swing enough to keep Troy long-term, this is going to be a true test.

Most of us men might not like to admit just how much our wives influence our decisions, but they do! If Troy's wife really wants to go back to the west coast it may be harder to sign him than we think. What has Troy said to reporters when asked if he will ever cut his hair? Ask my wife.......she won't let me cut it! It should be agreed that wherever Troy goes he will get paid some coin! If his wife is unhappy in Pittsburgh then that will not bode well for us resigning him. That may not be the "macho testosterone way to make decisions" but all married men know that keeping Momma happy is integral to a happy home! Someone please take that woman shopping!

Then give her the platinum card and let her go to town, and fly back home periodically if she wants, just ink his *** to a new deal

lol...that would make me happy if I was her...lol!!! Anyways, I did hear that she was missing Cali, but I also heard that they are really liking Pittsburgh and she is getting more involved in the community and loving it...so who knows. I do know, we need to sign him!!! This is one guy that we just can't afford to lose.

I'm sure Troy would feel blessed to be the highest paid Safety but IMO he doesn't feel that he needs be. Troy is very humble and thankful for what he has!

:iagree::plus1: If losing Porter was a bad loss, then losing polamalu would be like geting ones foot chopped off. We need him, and the Rooneys know that.

I think the Rooney's will do whatever it takes to keep Troy around. He is that valuable to our team and they know it!!!1

I agree Troy is a very good player and is important. But every player is replaceable. I hope he is resigned and retires a Steeler. If not then so be it. Hey players come and they go.

they do, but I dont see anyone around who could currently replace Polamalu. Not necessarily be him, but replace him. i think he will get resigned though.

Hey it would be very hard to replace his talent thats for sure. But you can a find/draft a player almost just as good. What I'm saying yes he needs to be resigned and I'm sure the Rooney's will give him a fair offer. Will it be a mind blowing contract? I would say probably not but still fair. Which it will be up to Troy as well if he wants to remain a Steeler. The ball is also in the players court if they want to stay a Steeler.

I'm sure Troy will resign. The Rooneys know he is one player you do pay big. I think Troy likes it here as well and will not be outrageous like some players are.

true. i guess it will come down to.. will he want to stay, and will they pay to let him stay. it is a both sided idea, and you are right about that

that's the problem with losing Porter, and if we were to lose Troy...there is nobody on the roster right now that could step in and play at his level. Anthony Smith is the future for us at Safety but we gotta have Troy to play beside him, the dude is demon back there and even though he played hurt off and on last year and our whole defense sucked *** most of the time it would have been helluva lot worse without him. If we can have Troy and Anthony Smith play together for awhile they can potentially be the best safety duo in the league.

Resign Troy, smith starting alongside, I think Ike bounces back this year and McFadden steps up. One hell of a secondary.
