View Full Version : LaGarrette Blount to Visit the Steelers

Real Deal Steel
03-21-2014, 03:32 PM
Free agent LeGarrette Blount will visit the Steelers on Sunday night.
It will be Blount's first action of free agency. The Patriots remain interested in re-signing Blount but want the market to decide how much to pay him. There are reportedly other teams interested in Blount, but they're unknown at this point. Blount is a powerful hammer back who can get what's blocked but possesses no wiggle and stones for hands. He'd be a decent No. 2 to Le'Veon Bell.

As far as a backup goes, I'd be fine with it. He's no world beater but he's a hard runner and could spell Bell on occasion. He's better than Dwyer.

Blount sucks...
he doesn't fit our scheme (zone)
he doesn't fill a need (pass blocker, pass catcher, speed threat)

signing him would make no sense

What is our scheme? Players / coaches said that they basically abandoned the zone blocking scheme in the first game. Even before Pouncey got hurt they only ran it a couple times. I am not sure what Munchak will do, but the line played pretty well the second half of the season. I would not mind grabbing blount I think he is a decent power back. The only problem is that if Bell gets hurt is he a #1 starter? I dont know if MJD would come here as a backup, and he would be too pricey anyways. I think we need a proven veteran behind Bell and then draft a late round RB.

I'd rather get a RB in the late rounds of the draft or UDFA.

We need to get younger on both sides of the ball.

Both, signing a vet, and drafting a RB are needed. We have no one after Bell right now and this roster has suddenly gotten pretty young.

Pouncey got hurt on the 1st drive of the game lol. How many times did they even have the opportunity to run it in one drive. Munchak runs a zone. He'll be implementing his system.

I don't think we will sign any of the big name free agent running backs, I think these guys are just visiting as many teams as they can to boost their value in the FA market. Almost all of these guys want to start I really cant see any of these guys taking a small contract and a back up role. I think your going to see blount or MJD end up with a team like the dolphins.

Alright guys i don't know if this site is worth a damn. But fansided.com has an article that says the steelers will likely be signing either MJD or Blount by the end of the week.

They took this from a trib guys (alan robinson) tweet. That says the steelers will be signing a VETERAN by the end of the week.

A vet RB could include way more then just MJD or Blount. Just throwing out what it says. With the rumors of MJD wanting 3-4 mil i doubt its him.

Anyway i wont get my hopes up. Itll probably be someone like felix jones.

They basically HAVE to add a vet RB. There's absolutely no one behind Bell and they aren't going to roll with 3 rookie RBs as depth. Just have to figure out which vet to get. I'd take Jones back, too. Bell, Blount, Jones, Rookie, Johnson(FB) would work for me. That would be five (non-Steeler) FAs signed. Good effort by the FO.

Bell

With a limited amount seen on bell he looks like the real deal near the endzone. He runs hard, has good patience and vision, and he can block/catch.

Hes the opposite of Blount lol

Ridley had almost 180 carries. Blount ~155. Vereen and Bolden had another 100 between the two. That's a lot of people running the ball in a passing offense.

Teams do not usually sign guys like that at this point, preferring to wait until June or so. Then, you have a better feel of where he is in rehab, you know who you drafted, etc.
