bull ****. he's terrible.

He was an unmotivated slob who had the ability to be a day 2 pick, and fell to the 5th round because he doesn't care... he's been given every opportunity to take the starting job in san diego and failed to do anything with it.

While he'll have a good game here and there, and once and awhile actually dominate (because he is capable), he simply does not have the work ethic or attitude the be a pro.

If we signed him, instead of Carrington... i'll cry...

Talented as in physically, calm down.

Hes a better fit here than he was in SD so hopefully it works out. Im assuming they did their DD in signing him. Like i said hopefully it accomplishes a few things, decent rotation at NT between him mcclendon, and fangupu, maybe he turns the corner and plays to his abilities, and hopefully this eliminates all consideration of Nix at 15

I am relieved that Nix will be out of the question now. I still say Mauro/Coleman/Kerr would be nice pickups in the later rounds.

I have to think they did their DD on him. And advised him how hard they expect him to work. He has the physical skills. So it's a good gamble. I like it.

I think he's NOT talented physically. He has size, that's not talent. He's a gap plug... not mobile enough to zero tech and own both sides like Casey used to do.

Woods was the same lazy a--- before we picked him up both times.. that was his whole deal as to why we even had a shot at him to begin with. it must go with the position often.. Cody, Woods, Thomas etc...

Carrington, Thomas, Mitchell would be a hell of a free agency class for the steelers.

ONly other player i think they should try for is Cotchery and possibly LSH

They need bodies. It probably won't be for anything more than min and I think he'll be a rotational guy at most. I don't think they brought him in to start over McLendon.

But yes, let's get Carrington done.

Reports were that they want to bring him back and they've had talks. So we'll see. Cotchery that is.

Don't like Thomas. For cheap depth it might be okay.

Gotta get Carrington done. Think they will. Sounds like Cotch and Hyphen will come back (no links, just seems like the buzz).

I'm not seeing him as the starter anyway: I liked him in collage, but to be honest, I haven't followed him in SD: But no matter what was or wasn't done in SD, he is with coach Mitchell now, and it the Steelers coaches didn't think there was enough raw materials to work with they wouldn't have signed him. And if he isn't properly motivated, the Steelers will find someone how is: The real question is: with this signing, dose this mean than Fanqupu is at NT, with McClendon and Haywood at DE, or do the Steelers bring back Kessel, keep McClendon at NT, and have Thomas, Fanqupu, with the two kids from last year draft as backups.

2 yrs / 4 mil
1 mil bonus
2014 : 1.0 sal + 0.5 bonus = 1.5 cap
2015 : 2.0 sal + 0.5 bonus = 2.5 cap

Hey what do you guys think about Dwayne Lawrence from Boise St. I think he could turn into something special in our scheme. His arms are so long that dude can scatch his knees without bending over lol. Where is he projected to go in the draft? or Jeremiah Attaochu from Georgia Tech?

Pokey Jones

To me this signing was out of necessity, its not an upgrade. Maybe he plays better here, but right now our D line (which was a weakness last year) is worse as a whole this year. It has to be a LOT better for us to have a real shot. Thomas imo is no better than Hoke used to be. Serviceable, but not that good.

Real Deal Steel

If we don't get the D-line upgraded, doesn't matter who we put in the secondary. Our run defense was the poorest I've ever seen it. Embarrassing.

The Steelers plan to use Cam Thomas at five-technique defensive end.
Thomas played nose tackle at North Carolina and with the Chargers, but the Steelers envision him as a two-gap space eater at left end. Thomas was an inconsistent run defender in San Diego, but has never lacked talent and is only 27. Steve McLendon will stay at nose tackle. Cam Heyward is the other end.

I am not seeing that...

I wonder if this is a ploy to keep Carrington's asking price down or to make teams believe we may take Nix in the draft. If they said they were going to make Cam their starting halfback it would almost be as believable.

Whoever is making this evaluation that Thomas can play a five technique DE needs to have his name attached to this. For the record, I want to know who he is. So this guy can be held accountable. It's time to weed out just who, and who can't evaluate talent and it's proper position.

Colbert indicated they see him as a DE. Said he was too tall (6'4'') to play NT.

 Colbert made a point yesterday to say that Cam Thomas, who was signed in free agency from the Chargers, was brought in to be a defensive end in the team’s 3-4 alignment – leading to the plausible assumption that Steve McLendon will remain at nose tackle, despite the Steelers’ interior problems in their run defense in 2013. However, Colbert also couched his comment by saying Thomas could get a look at nose tackle in training camp. Of course, that is no big surprise, either, because the Steelers always like to create position flexibility in their players. Colbert said Thomas is 6-4 1/2, which is too tall for a nose tackle.

I am sure Tomlin would have had some input. Does say they will give him a look at NT during TC.
