View Full Version : Alameda Ta'amu arrested for DUI and assault..Update 10/16, suspended 2 weeks

This just keeps getting worse, not only do we have players calling out fans on social media but now we've got them getting arrested for DUI, resisting arrest, assault, and threatening police... (police report linked in Dejan's article)

If you haven't seen the police report on Steelers nose tackle Alameda Ta'amu's very serious charges -- broken by The Fan's Colin Dunlap -- here it is: (http://ujsportal.pacourts.us/DocketSheets/MDJReport.aspx?docketNumber=MJ-05003-CR-0010432-2012)

In the courts, everyone is innocent until proven guilty.

Not so with private enterprise.

The Steelers must act swiftly to get their own answers. And if they don't like what they hear, then Ta'amu should be gone by day's end. Or shipped to the Bengals. The report describes Ta'amu as driving his SUV into several vehicles and at one point threatening police with it. There isn't much more the team needs to ask other than, "Was this you or not?"

This doesn't matter much, but the loss of Ta'amu will be no big deal. And not just because Casey Hampton and the mysteriously underutilized Steve McLendon are ahead of him at NT. Fact is, Ta'amu impressed no one in Latrobe and probably shouldn't have made the roster. - Dejan, Trib

(http://sulia.com/source/S-797781/?source=twitter&guid=940002d7-33fb-43dc-af17-53cddde7ba4f)Statement from Kevin Colbert Steelers.com- We are disappointed to hear about the situation regarding Alameda Ta’amu. We will gather more facts before providing any further comment.

I was just thinking the same thing. Tomlin has lost control of this team. Time for the Rooney's to step in and resotre order. This is unacceptable. These players are an embarassment to the black and gold.

From WPXI.. (http://www.wpxi.com/news/news/local/steelers-player-arrested-after-overnight-police-ch/nSck3/)

The criminal complaint says police spotted a 2006 Lincoln Navigator going the wrong way on Fort Pitt Boulevard early Sunday morning, when the driver then crossed the Smithfield Street bridge and ran a red light as he turned onto East Carson Street. Police say the driver then crossed into opposing traffic, driving on the wrong side of the street for seven blocks, to pass several cars at a time on East Carson Street.

Officers issued an alert for the SUV. One officer dressed in full uniform yelled, “Police! Stop the vehicle.” That officer then said the driver, later identified as Ta’amu, swerved toward him and nearly ran him over. Two other officers also spotted the car. They drew both of their guns as the Navigator came at them, but neither of them fired “due to the large number of pedestrians and motorists on the sidewalks and roadway.”

Police say Ta’amu took a sharp turn off of East Carson Street and onto South 14th Street. There, he allegedly hit four cars as police chased him. One woman in one of those cars was hurt. As of Sunday morning, she was listed in good condition at UPMC Mercy.

The chase took another turn when police say Ta'amu hit a fifth car, totaling both vehicles. Police rantoward him, and officers say Ta'amu than sprinted away from the car. He took off his blue shirt to avoid being recognized. When police caught up to him, they told him to get on the ground and put his hands behind his back. One officer was concerned that Ta’amu was reaching for his waistband, so he punched him in the face. Police got Ta’amu, who refused medical treatment, into handcuffs and took him to jail.
Arresting officers say Ta’amu’s breath smelled like alcohol, his speech was slurred and his eyes were bloodshot. Police say Ta'amu agreed to take a blood alcohol test, and he registered a blood alcohol content of .196 percent. That's more than twice the legal limit.

Tomlin is to blame for Ta'amu being a complete f*cking retard... Great logic there. Funny how Tomlin wasn't blamed for Ward getting a DUI because the steelers were winning.

Of course it's MT fault. It's because he's from the projects and has brought all his boys along to play. The Rooney's should fire him and hire the good white Mormon Andy Reid and only draft players from BYU.

It's how Tomlin responds to this sort of behaviour, is how you can judge him and if he can prevent it for the future. Are people just trying to bash Tomlin any chance they can get?

I'm with Flame on this one. He has no place on a professional roster. I was hoping that after a year or so of learning, getting bigger and stronger, he'd be the new nose. Now, it seems very likely that a) this was a wasted draft pick and 2) nose is still a position of need that's going to consume another high pick sometime soon.

How is white guys play more of a technical game and blacks guys tend to play with a higher of an emotional game racist..

Thats racist? Why...

Theres a movie call white men cant jump... i would agree a high percentage of white men cant jump as high as black athletes..

Why is that racist..

America is 80% white and maybe 15% black.. The NFL is 80% black and 15% white. Is that racist or is that black athletes jump, run and play harder than white guys?

I guess i confused a bit with the display of emotions but slightly related.. i really mean..

Technical to me is a Kicker and a Punter.. Mostly Technical..

Emotional is a go thing. you make up your mind and you go.

Pocket QB's Technical.. Run out of the pocket on a hint of trouble QB is an Emotional QB..

Linebackers that run in without hesitation or reading a play, Emotional LB

LB that waits a bit or holds his position for a cut back or draw. Technical LB

Woodley to me is more a technical LB - CCarter is more of an emotional LB

Thats how i look at it... whatever... you read into it..

Yes he did and he wasn't cut and played in 2 SB's wins. The guy was a total nut case on the field and off. Him and his girlfriend shaved arrows in their heads I think it was to point at Fran Tarenton before the first SB. They later cut him because he became a fat ***. If he would have played in all 4 SB's he would be in the HOF too. He was that good. So if you are a star it's ok to shoot at cops just don't get fat.

I don't see Tom Brady getting arrested for rape.
I don't see a player tweeting after every game (Ryan Clark last year).

I don't remember any Patriots team in the top 5 in penalties in the league.

Ben was never arrested for rape. They have plenty of players tweeting offensive things (Brandon Spikes homophobic tweet), and I'm pretty sure they weren't too happy with Gronkowski tweeting pics with a pornstar. How many of our players have a sex tape out? Zero... Something the Patriots cant say. You're right, their linebackers don't get penalized and fined, Belichick himself gets fined for cheating and putting his hands on a ref. From NFL.com

The fourth-round pick out of Washington apologized to his teammates on Monday but was not available to the media. Ta'amu was tabbed as the eventual successor to Casey Hampton whenever Hampton retires but has yet to dress this season. Hampton, who has taken on a mentor role with Ta'amu, doesn't think the arrest will be a distraction and is more concerned about Ta'amu's future.

"We still love him, but the guy made a mistake," Hampton said. "Not taking away from what he did, because it was a terrible thing. So, you definitely can't do that, but any time you make a mistake, you've got to ride this out and see what happens."

General manager Kevin Colbert said Sunday the team would gather facts before making any sort of decision, though the team has a pressing need for depth along the offensive line and the only way to make room on the roster would be to cut at least one player.

The Steelers have shown little patience lately with players who have run into trouble, cutting second-year tight end Weslye Saunders last Friday just four days after he finished serving a four-game suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy.

Either way, Ta'amu is unlikely to make any impact on the team this year, leaving it to the other 52 guys on the roster to get it together.

Your comparisons are waaaaaaaaaaay out of wack. The head coach DOES set the atmosphere and the expectations of the team down to the player. It was that way with Parcells, Belichek,Gibbs, Coughlin and Walsh. All multiple Super Bowl winning coaches.

Disciplinary coaches win. And that's what we need. Tomlin has to show he's a coach in that caliber and take the bull by the horns. And that includes telling Dick Le Beau that he's schemes are predictable and dated. Tomlin has shown me that he is a company "YES" man and not a guy who has the balls to lead by his own convictions. It's painfully obvious to everyone by now.

Where is the accountability? As a "real" coach, you demand the accountability of these "grown" men to get in shape (O-linemen); that Le Bum..I mean Le Beau be more innovative and bold (stop having the CB's give every freakin WR a ten yard cushion); And not be afraid to tell players shut their mouths on twitter or else.(Ryan Clark).

I have high hopes for this guy. A lot of young athletes come from nothing, sign an NFL contract, suddenly they're making 6 figures + and they become invinceable in their own minds. Those that know him say he is grounded, quiet family man who obviously had a serious lapse in judgement. If he is still on the roster next season, I would hope he gets an opportunity for playing time. He has all the makings physically to be the next Haloti Ngata, upstairs, he needs put himself in a better place. If there is one good thing about the Steelers being an "old team", it is they can take this kid and keep him on a proper path.

The Steelers will suspend Alameda Ta'amu for two games without pay. He's banned from facility during that time.
