Mike Tomlin admitted in presser that their was a debate about whether to let Suisham try that kick.

No way you try a FG in that situation, you punt and pin them deep. Make them earn every yard not set them up near mid field.

I was screaming at the TV.. PUNT THE DAMN BALL! There was no way he was going to make that one for sure. He had the accuracy, I give him credit for that but he just couldn't quite get it long enough. You always punt in that situation regardless of your kicker, make them earn the win.

i disagree... it was "only" 2 yards

calling either call the right or wrong move is hindsight...

if he makes it Tomlin is still better than sliced bread *rolls eyes*

If we had Janikowski, yeah he probably would have made it but remember Tomlin,we have
Suisham for christ sakes. I would have rather seen them go for it on 4th down with a pass
to Miller over the middle. Water under the bridge now.....

It has been several games since the Titans had drove the field for a score. But against our secondary, no problem.

sorry I disagree...Even if Suisham hits the 54 yard kick its still a questionable decision in my opinion....I was shocked Suisham hit the 52 yard kick earlier.......

Suisham drilled it, but it was a 54 yarder, which has to be hit perfectly. Bottom line, punt, hope you can play defense, and go to overtime. Perhaps he forgot OT is no longer sudden death?

**** Poor coaching last night, defense as a unit was atrocious. 8-3 the rest of the way puts them at 10-6. If things stay the way they are now, that won't be easy.

Anyone that defends tomlins decision is an idiot. The 52 yder he hit he nutted it and it made it by an inch. You punt the friggin football. That was the worse coaching decision i have ever seen in my life.

I don't know. I guess if the defense had been playing well it'd be the right decision. But Tomlin has to remember how terrible they've been in the final minutes lately.

A team trying to beat a bottom feeder by kicking a 54yds field goal outside, on grass with a kicker who has never done it before will end up with a top 10 draft pick.

At the time I thought it was the right decision because I was confident that Suisham would hit it. But after thinking about it, they definitely should have punted. If you pin them deep, I think the D holds up long enough to get us to overtime and a chance to win there. I understand why Tomlin made the decision though. You have to have confidence in your kicker.

Lets hope they don't blow the pick like we did this call!

Colbert WILL blow the pick. We need a new GM.

The kiss of death was Sushi making the 52-yarder. That gave Tomlin the confidence to let him try it. Reminded me of the end of the half in SBXLV.

I don't care if the Steelers had been dominating all season.....You don't try a 54 yard field goal with Suisham.......Suisham doesn't have a big time leg and really was shocked he hit the 52 yard kick.......Really Haley needs to be blamed as well for running the ball with Batch against a stacked box which resulted in nothing......That set up 3rd and long were Ben was pressured and tried to make a play while running like a chicken with its head cut off.....

I think what we saw there was a coach who wasn't confident that his D-fense, even had they punted I see no reason why the Titans wouldn't have been able to get the ball within fieldgoal range based on how things were going. That field goal attempt though not popular could have either won us the game or atleast ensured we went to OT.

I agree it was the wrong call.

Do they ask Susham in that situation what the max is he's comfortable kicking? I don't mean on 4th down I mean when the drive starts so it's pre determined if we are within X yards we go for the FG.

Goodfrom55

Steelers gave the Titans the ball at the 44 yard line with 50 seconds left, knowing they couldn't stop the titans offense. And to that end, My God did James Harrison look slow!

One of the dumber calls Tomlin has made as a Steeler.

This is has been a hugely hot topic all day on Twitter and all over the Steelers talk shows. I'm amazed at how the differences are with some saying yeah you go for it, others saying punt it.

There was no way I was comfortable with Suisham kicking 52 yds, let alone 54. I was screaming just punt the damn ball. I don't care what the defense has done, you play the percentages and try to force a mistake. You have a better chance of doing that from the 10 or 20 than you do at the 45. Remember, it's not like the Titans offense was without flaw either. Who's say he doesn't throw another pick? A dropped 4th down pass, a sack, something.

I'll play field position every time over a 54 yd field goal unless you're down and the game is on the line.

Not with all those injuries. No way. We are down to 4th string in some spots. I mean, come on.

Hell yes it was the wrong call, it was a stupid call. I don't care if you trust your defense or not, giving the offense the ball near the 50 is just putting an already struggling defense behind the 8 ball. You could not be confident in Suisham to make another long FG under that pressure. The kid has been awesome this year but the percentages tell me you always make the other team work for their points.

I was wondering the same thing when Suisham was ready to kick with 54 seconds left. I looked at the clock and saw "54" seconds and wondered what if he misses the kick!!! just had a weird feeling about it.

When is Tomlin gonna learn from his mistakes!!!! I think something similar happened last year, although I don't remember the game, details..etc.
