I know it's only late Monday night but looking ahead to this Sunday there are a lot of marquee matchups that are going to take place this weekend. You got the Patriots and Ravens in Baltimore on Sunday night, the Texans are playing at Denver, and the Falcons who are destroying Manning and the Broncos tonight will visit 2-0 San Diego. And of course you got the Steelers heading to Oakland to play an Oakland Raiders team that is 0-2 and has looked bad doing so the last 2 weeks. Getting beat soundly last Monday night to the Chargers in Oakland, and getting absolutely pounded by a bad Miami team yesterday by 22 points.

Now historically the Steelers never really seem to play that well in Oakland and especially Ben who had a nightmare of a game there in 2006. So this is definitely not a game to take for granted or lightly by any means, but still looking at this match-up across the board the Steelers if they show up and play like they are capable of playing and dont beat themselves by turning the ball over and giving the Raiders opportunities in this game they shouldnt have a problem once again sticking it Carson Palmer their old buddy and getting out of Oakland with a win and a 2-1 record heading into the bye week. Once again if guys like Troy,Harrison and Mendenhall arent close to being ready to play this weekend then by all means do not play them once again. Give Troy a full 3-4 weeks or so off to heal up completely and give Harrison another few weeks with his knee so both of them are good to go after the bye week on October 7th when the Steelers host the Eagles.

The bottom line is the Steelers I think have the favorable schedule this week out of all of the teams in the division and have an excellent chance to be in 1st place by a game on both Cincy and Baltimore at the bye week. I dont think the Bengals will beat RG3 and the Skins in their home opener Sunday, and I think the Ravens will have a hard time beating the Patriots who rarely lose two in a row under Belichick and Brady. So as long as the Steelers take care of business Sunday in Oakland they have an excellent chance to be at top of the division come the bye week and heading into October with a pretty favorable schedule to start the month...

the expression 'any given Sunday' does not apply to this game... I feel 100 % confident in utter domination on both sides of the ball...even if Charlie batch starts for Ben . 35-10

I can see it being closer than it should be... But if the dolphins can obliterate them with that offense an defense, it shouldn't even be close. I see a big day from Ben and the receivers.

Basicially, what Big T said.

I have a feeling the game will be much closer than it needs to be, but we should certainly win. The biggest thing, besides the W of course, will be getting everyone out of Oakland healthy.

The game will be close if we don't jump on them early. I'm down here in Raider country and the Raiders and their fans have been pointing to this game for 3 months. This is the first game that sold out for them. Raider fans in Los Angeles are caravaning up to Oakland this week in a big way for this game. We need to punch them in the mouth, go up on them 14-0 and they will fade away. But if we come out making turnovers, giving them reason to stay inspired, it will be just like the last time we came to Oakland. A loss. It would be a real blessing if we could find a running game.

can we stop #20?? If not it could be a long day... Palmer is used to playing us so advantage them there..

Oakland's secondary is supposedly very poor. This would be a good game to start taking more shots down field.

I hate the matchup reminds me of 2009. We are the better team as ee were then and someone named Bruce Gradkowski carved us up. Lets hope Plamer stays healthy.

From your mouth to God's ears. LOL. I'd love for that to be the score.

I try to be my best espn analyst lol :), I just feel we are due for some Ints. I think the defense turned around right before the half against the Jets and it will carry over for some time. I just dont see the raiders scoring any Td's if we are capable of playing defense the way we did against NY.

Two things:

1. I'm sure you could do just as good, if not better than the analysts they have at 'BSPN'. :yellowthumb:
2. In regards to ints, I was thinking the same thing and I totally agree.....it's time for a at least 3+ turnover game for the defense.

I think the Jets were just being the Jets. We turned up the pressure on Sanchez and he just reverted to the QB he really is. A bum.

I think those games where you travel three time zones to play a team that is "playing for their lives" after a win can be a problem. Then, you throw in the injuries. Until our first team is back and playing well I don't get over-confident about any game.

Exactly, I'm worried about this Game. Raiders are desperate for a win, after our game they have road games at Denver and Atlanta. If they don't beat us they will start 0-5. Traveling all the way to California is gonna be a long road trip, the long snapper cost the Raiders their first game against the Chargers, they have that issue fixed now. Always hard to win on the road in the NFL.

Anybody remember the last time we traveled to California and beat either the 49ers, Chargers or Raiders? Too lazy to look it up.

2005 Steelers beat the Chargers. With that said, they haven't played a whole lot of games out west against the teams you mentioned.

This screams trap-game to me.

Game will likely be closer than it "should be", but I see the Steelers and their ball control offense coming together this week to put up some scores. The Raiders are always fast, they have McFadden, so they will always have a punchers chance. As long as the line gives Ben time to execute the offense, I think the Steelers will be fine.

Defensively, the Raiders O-line is not great, Palmer is virtually stationary at this point in his career so they should have some opportunities to knock him around a little bit. Harrison and Troy play, it would take a Steelers implosion to lose this game.

Not a trap game. It would be a trap game if we had won both. I would have to think that the team will be focused for this one. Maybe that's the homer in me. But with a running game that is 30th in the league, you can't afford to feel cocky about anything.

Well, I'll be at the game on Sunday so I hope the gameday thread is popping off like crazy. I'm going to try and be active on the gameday forum live at the game because I need somewhere to let out my emotion! I got gifted some tickets but they're not in the greatest of sections. That, and the fact that I'll be in attendance with my Mother (raider fan), and Grandmother (Steeler fan) means no flying colors.:evilshake: I'm really not trying to get beer or spit thrown our way so It's really a no go. Cheering will be held to a minimum as well. :rant2: It's a shame I wont be able to go all out but I am however extremely excited. It's the first time I'll be able to see the boys in the flesh! As for the game, I have a feeling its going to be closer than it should. I still think we get away with the win though. Maybe a pick six to seal the deal. It's going to be a good one! GO STEELERS :tt02:

I don't know anything about the Raiders - except that they got trounced by the Fins. Thats enough for me, we win by at least 14. I will go with 27-3

Me too! But I've said that the last couple times we lost to the Raiders!

The Raiders games always scare me, not because they are better than us. That's rarely the case, we just seem to play down to them far too often. There's no excuse to lose this game, even on the road and across the country. Both teams are injured and not having key playmakers on defense especially, so it's time man up and assert the dominance we know we have.

I think anyone from Pittsburgh or western Pa. is going to be at their worst when in the proximity of Oakland, or L.A.
