View Full Version : Kapinos starts camp with a back injury!

The punting job for the steelers is going to be a hotly contested position at the 2012 camp as drew Butler squares off against incumbent Jeremy Kapinos. this battle got off the a slow start with Kapinos dealing with a back injury . Personally i think Butler is a better punter than Kapinos but then i also think Swayze Waters is a better kicker than suisam but suisam has a job and waters doesn't breaking in to the nfl as a kicker isn't easy unless you are drafted

It doesn't appear to be anything major, Tomlin said only missing a couple days. Butler did have 2 booming kicks of 70+ yds followed by some poor kicks as well. It's still anybody's job at this point but I think Butler will have to have a great camp and preseason to unseat Kapinos.

It's sooo hard to get a kicking job unless the team needs a kicker 98% of the time they go with the old shoe or kicker so to speak

No big deal, we have 2 capable punters in house, let the best foot win!

I somewhat predicted in the roster throwdown that Butler may get the job. He'll be cheaper and I believe he has a better leg. Just my opinion.

If they move off signing Wallace money won't be a concern

Butler is actually Kevin Butler's son, former kicker with 'da Bears.

If Butler can't stay consistent then bye bye...may the most consistent leg win:tt02:

He hasn't been particularly impressive at camp so far. The first day he was booming a couple over 75 yds then he followed it up with some not so good ones of less than 50 I believe. He's been inconsistent at best but it's only the first week so perhaps he'll get better. I don't want a guy that kicks it 75 yds one time and 40 the next. I'd rather have a guy that can place it inside the 20 all the time than a cannon for a leg who can't control the placement.

Sometimes the booming kicks can actually out-kick the coverage. Find a serviceable punter and give him the job.
Where's Chris Gardocki these days, he has never had a blocked punt in the NFL.

We don't need another punter on the IR.....

Butler averaged 45.2 yrds/pp in 168 punts no blocked punts with 60 punts inside the 20

Kapinos is going to be out for an extended period of time according to Kaboly. He's not talking and neither is Tomlin as to how it happened or exactly for how long. If Butler wants to make this team, this is the time to shine. I'm tired of Punters on IR too, somebody win this job and stay healthy for once.
Perhaps Butler wins the job, either sucks or gets hurt, and they once again call back Kapinos to save the day in November...
