Players don't usually arrive until after lunch since they don't have to be there until 4. Should start to see updates after 2pm or so.

Looks like Bouchette and Kaboly both got pulled over on the way there. Kaboly got the speeding ticket. LOL!

Me and @EdBouchette pulled over coming to camp. I get $111 ticket. Ed gets a warning. #BigTimePlayer

@MarkKaboly_Trib: I even tried "cover the steelers/heading to training camp" excuse and the cop looks at me and says "they need cheerleaders"

Rotoworld.com is reporting that MIke Wallace is about to sign a 42.5 mil contract.

Not exactly:

Mark Kaboly of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review is "hearing rumblings" that a deal is close between the Steelers and restricted free agent Mike Wallace. One rumor surfaced Tuesday that the sides had already found common ground on a five-year pact, though it proved premature. Where there's smoke there's usually fire, though, and a deal may be imminent. Wallace turns 26 on August 1, so if the five-year agreement holds, that contract would take him through his age-30 season and allow "60 Minutes" to test unrestricted free agency at 31. The maximum value of the rumored contract was $42.5 million.

Exactly......its why he had the nick name Whines Hard....lol Its funny when some in our fan base loves a player they can find no wrong but they'll bash another player for missing OTA's and just wanting a fair long term deal to secure his future when NFL teams cut players all the time when they deem a player not worth their contract anymore....I have no problems with how Wallace handle his situation and I would have done the samething if I was in his shoes.....

Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is looking forward to getting on the field for the first practice of camp and putting Todd Haley’s offense to the real test.“It’s exciting to get back into it,” said Roethlisberger as he checked into camp. “OTAs are not really getting back into it. We need to put pads on, see how some people can perform in pads and get rolling. We will have pads on, tackling, and that is why I am excited.”One player Roethlisberger is hoping to have on the field with him soon is wide receiver Mike Wallace, who has yet to sign his tender offer.“We would love to have Mike here,” said Roethlisberger. “The problem is I am not his agent, I am not the general manager or owner of this team so I don’t know what’s going on. I guess we just have to prepare every day for practice like Mike is injured. That is how we have to approach it. We hope he gets here because he brings so much joy and excitement to the locker room and field.”

I don't like when anyone holds out; especially when it is with a well run organization like the Steelers. Haven't they figured out by now the Steelers know what they are doing and the players will get paid? Show up, sign the tender and keep negotiating. The Steelers realize if they don't get Wallace under contract this year, he is gone for sure. They don't want that to happen. In the mean time, get to camp - it will all work out in the end.

BlitzburghRockCity
07-25-2012, 06:17 PM
Media not allowed to report on the results of the run test but the following are updates from his presser afterwards.

@Ken_Laird: Tomlin: "Really pleased, largely, with the group in terms of conditioning test. Impressive work, young and old" #Steelers

@CBSSportsNFLPIT: #Steelers added 6 men to PUP list: Harrsion, Starks, Cromartie-Smith, Mendenhall, Worilds, Hampton

@CBSSportsNFLPIT: Mike Tomlin on Mike Wallace: "When he shows up, he'll show up."

@Ken_Laird: Tomlin says he hasn't spoken to Wallace in "10 to 14 days"

@Ken_Laird: James Harrison is a knee "just want to make sure he's ready to go before we proceed." Back is OK

Per Tomlin: I'm not any more excited about the offense or defense as I am with the special teams..meaning everything about camp is exciting.

"The wheels will continue to turn, somebody is going to catch passes and make tackles (referring to Wallace)

On Mendenhall: Excited about Mendenhall, his knee is going great.

had a hunch he might be because of some updates throughout the offseason but I was hoping he'd be healed up by now. He doesn't need camp to be ready but you hope that he's good to go within the first week or two of camp. I doubt he'll play much in preseason.

@CBSSportsNFLPIT: Tomlin called the recovery of RB coach Kirbby Wilson, who was badly burned in a Jan. house fire: "A blessing to have him back."

@CBSSportsNFLPIT: An Armageddon-worthy storm pounding St. Vincent College as we speak. #Steelers just got practice in before it started.

@albyox: From the dorm room above the field at St. Vincent, we just saw a wicked lightning strike about 200 yards away-actually saw flames on ground.

@CBSSportsNFLPIT: Who wants to see a Chris Rainey-Mike Wallace 40yd race? That might be the only thing to get the competitive Wallace into camp-- a challenge!

Steelers complete first practices
Heath Miller left the Steelers practice this afternoon with a sprained left ankle. It's not considered serious.

Alameda Ta'amu also left with a foot injury. It, too, is not considered serious.

Other than that, the Steelers' practices today weren't a whole lot different than the OTAs. There's still a lot of learning to do with the new offense, which features more throws to the running backs on swing passes and screens than I have seen in my 20 years of covering this team.

Fans should be happy with that.

@ Fans will get their first look at the Steelers Friday afternoon when the team's practice is open to the public. I expect the team to be a little more spirited in that workout. The players seem to feed off the energy of the crowd.

@ Troy Polamalu looks a little heavier than usual. He's doing his usual work after practice and such, but he's starting to fight father time and genetics.

I still expect Polamalu to be a difference maker, however.

@ Don't be surprised if the Steelers bring in a veteran wide receiver or two for workouts in an effort to scare Mike Wallace into camp - Plaxico Burress anyone?

The team could also open negotiations with the agent of wide receiver Antonio Brown.

Troy looked heavier during the offseason as well. I'm sure he'll sweat off the remaining pounds he wants to lose in all this training camp heat. His quick jump off the ball and closing speed are a huge part of his game. Plus you can't jump over offensive lineman while anticipating the snap count if you're carrying an extra 20 lbs..lol

Man if AB were to get a contract extension somehow this offseason and Mike Wallace didn't??!! :yikes:

Post practice from Prisuta, Ilkin, and Labriola:

Rough day baron batch, beat by Sylvester and others.
Keith Butler had them doing it again and Batch held his own later on.

Ryan Clark and Antonio Brown got into a big scuffle, pretty heated confrontation. After 3 days of doing nothing you get a chance to hit some people.

11 on 11 drills - Colon just owned Lawrence Timmons in his first action at Guard. Pouncey and Colon were double teaming McLendon. Colon then move up to take on Timmons; Colon then buried his helmet into the chest of Timmons, picked him up and drove him into the ground. Both players got into it in another scuffle.

The key for the offense is to be more physical.

Colon, Pouncey, and DeCastro can be a lethal, dominating trio on the line if they stay healthy. All are big, mean, and tough. All have good feet and ability to adjust in pass coverage.

Practice ran past 5pm until lightening started and big winds called it off shortly afterwards.

Offense focusing on the run game today almost exclusively. When you do it and practice it over and over you get better at it. Traditionally the Steelers always want to run the ball but there's a big emphasis so far on getting back to that.

Colon: Their tired of hearing how they don't run the ball well. Haley is holding them to it; lineman are taking it to heart.

Tomlin post briefing:

A lot of 1 on 1's today. Starting the process of putting them in competitive situations. Dont' read too much into it yet, just getting started.

Sean Spence, minor injury, shoulder. Hurt it on Friday in practice. He was limited today but did participate.

Good work, good energy. Need to clean up the professionalism, but that's all part of the process. (referring to the scuffles today between Colon and Timmons, Brown and Clark.

Steelers July 29th notes
I finally got to sit and watch - OK, stand and watch - an entire practice Sunday for the first time at this camp without having to hustle somewhere else or have things abbreviated by the threat of rain.

I saw some pretty good things out there.

Second-year linebacker Chris Carter looks physically bigger on the field and his functional strength is improved. Once just a guy who could beat you with his quick first step, Carter can now lock onto somebody and force them where he wants to go instead of the other way around.

He did this in the backs on tight ends drills against David Johnson, then handled Leonard Pope.

Carter told me after practice that he's added eight to 10 pounds of muscle.

Being that he's starting opposite LaMarr Woodley with both James Harrison and Jason Worilds on the PUP list, it was a good move for Carter.

@ The Steelers had a physical pads practice and had some players dinged up at times.

Starting running back Isaac Redman took a shot early and sat out a few plays, but the most serious injury was to cornerback Keenan Lewis, who suffered an injury to the AC joint in his right shoulder during a sideline collision.

He could be sidelined a while, with Cortez Allen moving into his starting spot.

Offensive linemen Trai Essex and David DeCastro also suffered minor ankle sprains, but are not expected to miss any time.

Tight end Heath Miller (ankle) and punter Jeremy Kapinos (back) were joined on the sidelines Sunday by wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders, who was given the day off by head coach Mike Tomlin rather than have him practice on field turf.

As for good news on the injury front, safety Damon Cromartie-Smith is expected to be activated from the PUP list on Wednesday. He has been out with a shoulder injury.

@ Funny moment of the day came when offensive tackle Max Starks was working with the other PUP list players on his conditioning.

After running back Rashard Mendenhall completed a cone drill with the ball in his hands, Starks did the same.

I told the guy next to me that if Starks had the ball in his hands on a play, something had gone terribly wrong.

Starks came to his senses on the next drill and declined the ball when Mendenhall offered it to him.

@ The catch of the day belonged to first-year receiver Jimmy Young.

Working against Ike Taylor, Young went to the ground down the sideline on the final play of practice to snare a perfect pass from Byron Leftwich, hanging onto the ball as his helmet popped off upon contact with the ground.

@ While Carter looked improved, both Johnson and Leonard Pope disappointed in the backs on tight ends drill.

The clear star was LaMarr Woodley, which is why they are paying him the big bucks. Woodley whipped everyone in sight.

Good news about Carter. Worilds seems good, but not much of a pass rusher. Hits you with intensity but doesn't really move around the tackles

we need that speedy guy behind Woodley and James. Woodley, if healthy, should be aiming for DMVP once again from all I'm hearing

Nope. Woodley is a fat, overpaid bum who is the king of "gimme sacks"... Oh ya and we should've traded him to the Eagles last season for Brandon Graham.

Small world, I ran into a guy at the airport, he saw my Pens hat and started BS'n with me about the teams. He was a big Worilds fan in college and said he expected him to be a monster for this team. I said we're still waiting!

CowherPower
07-30-2012, 04:31 PM
The jury is still out him, Worilds. His rookie year he showed signs that he could be a serious player. Then last year he had a bad camp and preseason. Got hurt and didn't play well at all until late in the year when he was atleast adequate most of the time.

He's got to stay healthy and step up this year, I noticed way too often in 2011 he was getting swallowed up by the Tackle and completely unable to chase down a RB.

Real Deal Steel
07-30-2012, 08:41 PM
Last year was the lockout and a lot of players across the league suffered. I'm throwing out last year...let's see what he does in a real, learning camp environment and then go forward. Everyone was expecting Worilds to make the jump last year but seriously we have to look at what last year was...It was a crazy year. Worilds has to put up or shut up this coming season so we'll see how it goes.

Looking forward to todays reports. Kind of liked @ChrisG_FC. He seemed to pay some attention to the bottom 40. Interesting to see how they are doing. There seems to be quite a few comments on players everywhere, but very few actual video clips of what is going on. On well, it's early.

These reports from these various reporters are fine, but frankly, I would like to see more reports from average Joe Fan. Sometimes I think their viewpoints of these players is very good.

On the steelers official site there was a 37 minute camp review video. Maybe 45 seconds of it showed actual actionl Hope that changes.

Blitz,

Notice that they team is really practicing the run game and being physical. Despite the fact we know Haley is a passing coach. That's because orders came from the top to re-establish the running game.

We know we have the passing weapons, but getting offensive balance is the key. Especially in the red zone.

Yeah, he plays to whatever strength he has at his disposal. In this case an Elite QB and quality depth at every skill position. If they get Wallace for the whole season, the WR corps goes from good to Elite as well. The Rooneys wanted to emphasize "being more effective" in the run game. This team was TERRIBLE at situational offense last year and situational running was god awful. Its about being able to run effectively, not just running 65% of the time. Think the Patriots when the had Corey Dillon!

— Todd Haley’s offense has something for everyone. For Ben Roethlisberger, there’s the promise of virtually free rein to run the no-huddle offense. For running backs Isaac Redman and Rashard Mendenhall (when he gets healthy), there’s the promise of a blocking fullback. (Yes, those are two-backs you’re seeing. It’s not an illusion.) For the wide receivers, there are simpler pass routes that don’t require as much reading as they do reacting. For the linemen, there aren’t as many blocking adjustments as before (at least they’re saying there aren’t).

This what I like to hear about the offense under Todd Haley.....Seems like he made the offense easier for the WR's and OL to adjust........

I hope this is legit:

If Roethlisberger’s arm does continue to hold up, he’d like to use it to throw passes to Mike Wallace. Roethlisberger told Bouchette that he’s spoken to Wallace and that he thinks it shouldn’t be too much longer until he’s able to have a conversation with him in person instead of over the phone.

“I don’t know what’s going on with his agent or what they’re telling each other, but he wants to be here,” Roethlisberger said. “I believe he will be here and I think he’ll be here soon.”

Thursday news and notes
We might have seen a changing of the guard at cornerback Thursday in the final two plays of practice.

Working in the two-minute offense to close things out, Ben Roethlisberger lofted a 36-yard TD pass down the sideline to Antonio Brown, who got behind Keenan Lewis - the current frontrunner to start opposite Ike Taylor.

On the very next play, Cortez Allen, who along with Curtis Brown is fighting to unseat Lewis, leaped over rookie receiver Tony Clemons to pick off a Byron Leftwich pass along the sideline, showing the athleticism that has the coaching staff so excited about him.

Lewis has been battling a shoulder injury - and had to briefly leave practice Thursday after jacking up wideout David Gilreath at the line of scrimmage - but Allen's athletic ability is hard to overlook.

Coming out of the Citadel, Allen was supposed to be a project. At this point, the former fourth-round draft pick looks like the second coming of Ike Taylor - with hands.

@ LaMarr Woodley sat out practice again today and as a result, the linebackers vs. tight ends running drill was a walkover for the tight ends - who to this point have looked like five guys named Moe.

Jamie McCoy continues to shine in the one-on-one blocking drills, but until he lines up against Woodley, James Harrison or even Jason Worilds, we'll withhold judgement.

On the defensive side, the only linebacker who flashed was Patrick Robinson, a rookie out of Temple.

After beating pretty much everyone the team put in front of him, Robinson drew what Mike Tomlin called, "Varsity reps" against David Johnson.

Robinson also looked good there.

Mind you, Heath Miller has not been participating in these drills for the tight ends.

@ A moment after being chastised for not being physical enough on a stunt, rookie nose tackle Alameda Ta'amu brought the pain in a collision with Ramon Foster. That was 700 pounds of human being ramming into each other there and was not for the faint of heart.

Cam Heyward looks like a beast in those drills.

He jacked up Trai Essex so hard on a bull rush that it's possible Essex' ancestors felt it.

Dale,

The cream always rises to the top eventually, that's why I still think Cortez Allen will be starting oppose Ike Taylor on opening day. I have been surprised to see that DeCastro has been getting whipped so much in one-on-one drills. Maybe he's the type that plays better during a game than he does in drills. I am surprised that Adams has looked as good as he has so far. When I want to know how a lineman really looks on the field, I like to turn to Tunch Ilkin. When he says Adams has played the best and is the most athletic tackle he's seen in practice so far, that is saying something. As always, I still reserve judgement until I see what happens in between those white lines, beginning a week from today in Philadelphia. Mike Wallace, cut the foolishness & come back where you belong.

I have been telling anyone who would listen about Adams, went to HS here in my Dublin OH, and watched him at OSU, he got caught up in a bad culture, and thankfully it helped him fall to us. You can not teach a 6'9" man to have feet that quick, you either have them or you do not, just wait until he has a couple years of pro coaching, he could be one of the best in the league, he is that gifted of an athlete.

Great to hear about Cam Heward as well, I could see him beating out hood at end, he seems more natural at the position to me. Also great to hear about Allen, heck, it's great to hear about any DB looking good. I think a lot of folks are overlooking what could be a special team, and a very special team for several years to come.

getting whipped so much one on one now equals getting beat on a single one on one drill reported on twitter the second it happened......come on now

anyway, its easier for a DL to come in an play the one on one drills than it is for a OL to come in and block the dline. Hood looked like a super stud in one on one drills even though he blows on game day. Decastro will be fine, the pro game is a bit different for interior offensive lineman...he cant just come in and over power everyone, hes gotta refine his technique (which is very good already) and you really cant get a good feel for it until he gets live game action

FRIDAY, AUGUST 03, 2012

Feisty play continues
Friday night's practice at Latrobe Stadium was highlighted by a second round on backs/tight ends on backers drill.

David Johnson and Barron Batch were the clear stars for the offense - with Johnson drawing praise after practice from head coach Mike Tomlin.

Batch didn't win his matchups as decisively as Johnson, but after a poor showing the first time the Steelers did these drills, he showed some real toughness and a willingness to finish blocks.

Isaac Redman has a groin injury and did not take part, joining LaMarr Woodley, James Harrison and Jason Worilds on the sidelines for this one.

Heath Miller also did not take part.

Defensively, Lawrence Timmons still brings the noise in this drill.

@ Ben Roethlisberger was held out tonight, as was Brett Keisel. Both were just given the night off.

@ Talked to Joey Porter during practice. He said his wife really likes Pittsburgh and has him looking for a house back here.

Porter would also like to get into coaching.

@ Cam Heyward and rookie Mike Adams had some Ohio State on Ohio State violence after Adams pancaked Heyward in a team drill.

Heyward apparently took offense to Adams going for the kill shot and the two squared off and started swinging.

Willie Colon stepped in to break it up, but then also started swinging at Adams.

@ Speaking of Colon, he got rolled up in a team drill - right before the fight - after Ramon Foster tossed someone into the back of his leg, tweaking his ankle.

It was a scary moment for Colon, who is coming off an Achilles' injury.

He went a few more plays, then shut things down.

Foster moved over to left guard and rookie David DeCastro took over at right guard.

“I feel good,” said Adams. “I have a great group of veteran offensive linemen around me helping me out. I am trying to get better every day. That is my main focus.

“My focus is getting better every day, coming out trying to fix the little things every day, the little technique things we have to work on. Nobody is perfect but we are working on it. It’s working on the technique and executing it.”
Among those who have been a big influence on him is tackle Max Starks.

I just don't see a limp in Woodley. I've just been assuming that's his saunter.

BuzzsawPGH Chris Rainey returns first kickoff, Marquis Maze &Batch back for second Dwyer in mix too. Dunno why but I'm intrigued by return man battle

@steelers Offensive Line getting ready for goal line drill at @steelers practice. http://t.co/SLdwEBrI

BuzzsawPGH By the way, no Redman or Colon at practice today.
@CBSSportsNFLPIT: Colon has an ankle injury from last night.

JimWexell: Ben limped off just before goal line drill, may have had left foot stepped on.

Ben is on a golf cart, pads off, foot iced. He is still on the field though watching practice still.

Update:

According to Prisuta:

Redzone drills before goal line. Ben threw a TD pass to Sanders. After he limped off to a golf cart, had some work done, pads came off. Before goal line drill started he was standing up watching the drills.

I agree. He's been up and down but I've heard some real positive things. I would love to see him #3 and keep Lefty for #2. No one is going to sign Batch so he'll be there if we need him.

Both Colon and Heyward have been ruled out for the game against the Eagles on Thursday according to Tomlin.

@CBSSportsNFLPIT: McLendon, You been seeing your teammates for the past 2 1/2 weeks now so going out and hitting somebody else is gonna be really fun.

Mendenhall: I'll be back at some point this season, it's just a matter of when.

Tomlin also said Ben will play 1 or 2 series on Thursday.

DeCastro and Adams will both start on the OL; Foster will play LG.

Chris Rainey will get his chance to return kickoffs and punts against the Eagles.

Definitely excited about Adams and DeCastro. And I'd be lying if I said I didn't have a huge heterosexual boner for Rainey.
