View Full Version : Crosby to be a Penguin for life

With Sidney Crosby's contract expiring at the end of the 2012-13 season, the Penguins have reportedly decided to take care of business a year earlier than expected and are expected to sign their superstar captain to a new deal worth in excess of $100 million.

TSN reports that Crosby's deal will make him the NHL's next $100 million player and that the terms will be around his old cap hit of $8.7 million annually over the course of 11 or 12 years.

The Penguins take a huge risk on Crosby, who has suffered through concussion issues dating back to the 2011 Winter Classic against Washington. But with Crosby seeming fully recovered and in good health during Pittsburgh's playoff series against Philadelphia, the Pens are more than willing to commit huge money and support to the NHL's most exciting player.

12 years $104.4 million!

That's only 8.7 a year, (does the 87 have any meaning?) a great deal which means he took way less than what he is worth and the extra $$ will be used to sign Parise and Suter! :)

He actually passed up probably $30 million+. Every team in the league would have given him max contract. This just goes to show what Mario, Pens, & winning means to Sid. We can only hope Geno does the same.

Great news, a few more cups, than after that let him be part owner with #66

why would he need to be a part owner? just because he is a great...

sure its a great love story for mario, but he should remain the owner along with the others, not have too many ex player owners

I wasn't serious about the owner part.

I was actually thinking about how little Sid would take to stay in Pittsburgh. I bet he would've even taken less than that.

Sid is a class act, except for when we play the Flyers, LOL!!

Love this! Looking forward to watching this guy rock a Pens uniform for the next 12 years.
