Looks like OLB/DE Mike Roth and K Dave Rayner are both in for visits as well. I'm surprised Longwell wasn't invited yet.

Rayner has been in the league since 2005 and bounced around to different teams every year. in 2007 he was with the Chargers and Chiefs. In 2011 he was with Buffalo and Oakland.

Roth has also been in the league since 2005 playing with the Dolphins until 2009 and then with Cleveland in 2010 and Jacksonville in 2011. 6'4" 272 LB/DL . Has 23.5 tackles to his credit for his career.

Its interesting to see the Steelers bringing in 2 more LB's at this point. Makes you wonder how confident they are with the back ups.

Rayner & Shawn came into the league the same year...

Rayner 72.2 Career FG%, w/ long of 56, 7 Touchbacks last year

Shawn 79.5 Career FG%, w/ long of 52, 28 TB's in twice as many att's as Rayner

Just as a comparison:

Reed 82.2 Career FG%, w long of 53, 50 TB's in his lifetime :duh:

In fairness to the Steelers, Reed a few screws loose.

I don't think bringing in extra players say anything about the back-ups. You can never not bring in enough players to evaluate talent. Its always a possibility they could unseat a back-up or even potentially a starter.

If someone gets hurt you at least have a clue as to a few player that may help for a few weeks in the interim

As far as I'm concerned there should be no allegiance to any kicker on this roster. There needs to be a battle between them all and whoever kicks it best, wins. Plain and simple. PK and P have been issues on this team for years and it's time to settle in on some quality personnel.

I am hoping for a new kicker. I just don't think Shuisham is the man. The ball was moved forward on the kick-offs and he still isn't consistently hitting the end-zone. Just think if the opposition had to start at the 20 or less each drive. Makes LeBeau's defense all the more formidable.

We also face many good punters last year and we saw first hand that they can be a valuable weapon. I swear we spent most of the 49ers game in the shadow of our own goalposts. This lends me to believe upgrades are possible and we should not settle.

Agreed..the kicking game has been subpar for too long.

Nothing earth shattering here and it's not likely that Ressel was going to unseat Suisham anyway but he was brought in after the draft to compete with Sushi for the Steelers PK job but that's over with now. He was released, hence the reason that that David Rayner was brought in for a visit.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have brought in veteran kicker Dave Rayner, according to sources with knowledge of the situation. The NFL journeyman kicker has played with eight teams in as many years where he has racked up 65 field goals on 90 attempts and made 77 or 78 extra points.

Great ... we signed Suisham to compete against Suisham ... maybe next year we should draft a Kicker in the 3rd round?

I thought for sure they would have drafted a kicker in the later rounds.....i have no faith in Suisham....any attempt from 40 yards and beyond is a crap shoot for him....he needs to go

Yeah, I find myself turning away from the TV every time he lines up for a FG.
