Tweeted out this afternoon that Steelers 5th round pick, 159 overall, RB Chris Rainey signed his 4 yr deal with the team. SteelersDigest & Steelers.com gave us the lowdown about the news.

Rainey (5-8, 178), who was the 159th overall pick, played collegiately at the University of Florida. He started 19-of-52 games for the Gators, six as a slot receiver and 13 at tailback. He finished his career ranked ninth in school history with 2,464 yards rushing on 396 carries (6.2 avg.). Rainey scored 21 touchdowns multiple ways: 13 rushing, six receiving and two on punt returns. He set the Southeastern Conference career-record with six blocked punts. Rainey became the first Florida player to record a rushing, receiving and return touchdown in the same game, accomplishing the feat versus Florida Atlantic in the 2011 season opener.

With the rookie pay scale/salary cap, they'll all be signed quickly. No leverage for them to look for a better deal.

I don't usually get overly excited about 5th round draft picks but I like this kids speed and pass catching out of the backfield. It's good that he's got the deal done and out of the way. It should be a good battle between him and Baron Batch.

Nice to see the early signing. After all the vets that retired and were cut the young depth at the bottom of the roster looks to be real fun to watch this year. No more "old and slow" comments. And funny of all, no more NFLN commentary from the guy who said "old and slow".

Yes, I agree to a point. I would like to see Batch do very well. I am thinking Rainey may primarily be used on kick-offs and punt returns. Are we going to see a 5' 8", 178 lb. RB?

I'm hoping Batch will be in camp to battle him.

I do like the idea of a change of pace scat back....
