PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers could add another 3,000 seats to Heinz Field after a city board passed a resolution to allow expansion of the stadium.
Allegheny County Sports and Exhibition Authority (SEA) approved the resolution Thursday, and the Steelers can now take the proposal to the NFL for approval next month, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported.
SEA executive director Mary Conturo told the newspaper, "The first thing to be done is to be sure the NFL is in agreement."
The seats would be added in the south end zone under a scoreboard. Heinz Field currently has a capacity of 65,050.
The extra seating could be funded by a surcharge on tickets or fans could be charged to "buy" a seat.
