Art Rooney II, a member of the NFL management council's executive committee, said the proposal this time last year of an 18-game schedule was scrubbed quickly. “It was taken off the table early in the discussions because everyone realized the players weren't going to buy into it and wouldn't go for it,” Rooney said. “I don't know if it will resurface.''

I don't want an 18 game season so I'm glad it's tabled for at least the forseeable future. 16 games plus the bye week is enough. You throw in all the new prime time games starting right out of the gate now this year and then to add 2 more regular season games on top of it? No thanks...

I want a longer playoff before a longer season. They need to add 2 more teams each from AFC and NFC so one more game in the playoffs

Oh so the NFL is putting off being complete hypocrites. Good for them.

I'm glad. I hate the thought of the 18 game schedule.

If you take it to 18 games, then it'll turn into 20 and then 22 and then an expanded playoff and we'll be seeing football from June through March every year with 4 bye weeks and a billion injuries.

I love watching football as much as anyone but 18 games is just asking for trouble, just begging for more injuries. If anything I wouldn't mind seeing them expand the playoff seeds to include another 2 teams on each side though at some point.
