EAST RUTHERFORD,N.J. óRon Erhardt, the offensive architect of the New York Giants' two Super Bowl titles under Bill Parcells,has died. He was 80.

The Giants announced that the one-time head coach of the New England Patriots and the long-time NFL offensive coordinator died in Boca Raton,Fla. on Wednesday morning.

I heard this on the way home. Very sad. He was a great OC. Ran the offense the way it should be. RIP Ron.

Sad indeed. For those of you too young to remember SB XXX, Ron Erhardt was the offensive coordinator for that team that lost to Dallas 27-17. You could argue that Erhardt was one of the better coordinators in the NFL simply because of his ability to adapt to the talent around him. With the NYG, they won SBs with great defense but also with well balanced offense with Simms/Hostetler and a running game of Joe Morris and OJ Anderson.

With the Steelers, Erhardt was known for pounding the ball, but also behind Neil O'Donnell, could go 5-wide in a heartbeat. He also helped develop a kid name Kordell Stewart into 'Slash.'

That man knew how to coach a ground game that's for sure. He and Cowher were a perfect match.
