But can he block?

From the Chicago Tribune August 21st " The luxury the Bears have in the 6-foot-7, 267-pound Davis is his versatility as a pass-catcher and reliable blocker.

"He's been great in camp with run blocking and pass (protection), and he's really done a nice job with his routes," DeBord said of Davis. "He just had a heck of a camp."

He was mainly a blocker in Chicago under Mike Martz.

Seems this story is gaining some ground now. PFT reporting:

A league source tells Florio that free agent tight end Kellen Davis has scheduled three upcoming visits.

Per Florio’s source, Davis will be visiting the Cowboys, Steelers, and Bengals.

Davis, 26, has deceptive athleticism for a 6-foot-7, 262-pound tight end who spent most of his time blocking in Chicago. Davis ran in the low 4.6s coming out of Michigan State, and Bears coach Lovie Smith always wanted to incorporate him more into the passing game.

Outgoing offensive coordinator Mike Martz would have none of it.

Davis caught 28 passes for 300 yards and nine touchdowns in four seasons with the Bears. He would be a No. 2 tight end in all of the three potential destinations mentioned above.

This could be the beginning of the end for Mr. Saunders if the Steelers sign this guy.

Meh. I still say they should focus efforts on the three major needs. TE isn't a huge need, even with Saunders missing 4 games.

I'd rather it be the beginning of the end for DJ.

TE isnt a huge need? Heath Miller annnddd then? Saunders who for me the jury is still out, is out the first 4 games that doesnt help. If we dont sign someone we definitely need to address TE in the draft.

This.......Its one of those moves were it won't seem sexy at the time but will be a key to the season.......typical Steelers move........

Well this one's over. Davis signed a 2yr deal to stay with the Bears. On to the next guy.

I definitely wouldn't mind this. Need a solid TE to play with Miller.

Why? The Steelers don't throw to the damn TE enough. Why waste a spot.

Isn't Miller getting old? following the analogy of this forum...Are we abandoning the run now with all this TE and WR talk?!

Not really old, but a position we should be looking next year (along with Safety) for the future guys.
