Another Steeler icon bites the dust as the front office continues the onslaught of cuts with the most recent, James Farrior. According to his agent he got the news this morning from the team: @RalphCindrich: #JamesFarrior has been a rock for the #Steelers but the #Turk takes no prisoners-he's gone. A not so Good Morning from Cali. #NFL

Would a rookie be given the chance to start?

Didn't Pouncey start? All depends on the player.

It's the end of an era now, I am going to miss Potsie big time. He might not have been the player he was even in 2010 but the dude was a Steeler all the way. The burden of calling the plays will now fall to either Timmons or Farrior's replacement.

Be prepared for an off year we usually don't do as well in the first year after big changes this is probably the biggest exodus since the noll era team was dismantled
That being said i'm excited to see some of the new guys finally get significant playing time especially at inside linebacker .I think Hightower fits the best for our needs If wallace signs with the Ravens or the 49ers we can get konz or glenn or osemele

What though have we really lost, Ward who was the 4-5th wr, A guard in Kemo who was benched, Farrior true the emotional leader but the guy was slow and it showed this past year. And Smith a guy who only played 15 gms in 3 years. Yes there are 3 great vets in that group but I don't think the dropoff will be as bad as being an "off season". Although I don't think the Steelers will win 12 games but then again they weren't supposed to in 2011 either.

What this should tell everyone is that Woirlds is going to be a significant part of the defense now. Weather we like it or not. He will have a full training camp this year to get fully aclimated and since they cut Farrior, they obviously feel that Woirlds is ready so I will feel the same too.

Telegram to Mike Wallace: See the attrition. take the money on whatever team offers you the most. There is no loyalty in pro football. $ first team second.

I was actually somewhat impressed with Farrior this year. He was a great emotional leader and, for his age, made some heads up plays if I recall. But, like with Ward, it had to be done. Players like him won't just leave..they have to be told to leave. And I'll take one off year with a bunch of young starters if it brings good years in the future.

Disappointing in some ways, but I agree, I'm happy they are doing what needs to be done.

They really need to cut Hampton; such a massive cap savings (but I think they are hanging on to lessen the perception of the need at nose.)

Playcalling will fall on LT, but don't forget for now (anyway) Foote still has his "Foot" in the door. Only impact cut was Farrior and we all thought it was time from a speed perspective. The Butler will get Foote , Sly, or whoever is going to replace Farrior ready and the Steelers will go from there. That's what they always do.

My 2 cents, they didn't release all these guys to let Wallace sign somewhere else.

How is it that Casey Hampton is excluded from these cuts? Does anyone truly expect him to be an impact player next year coming off his 2nd ACL surgery? I might be in the minority, but I do not believe he will be effective as a run stuffer or pocket collapser.

Worilds is an OLB a pass rushing LB I don't believe they are moving him inside... either Foote or Stevenson will start inside, a FA pickup, or a rookie....

I seen a lot of football with farrior chasing 2 yards behind people. he needed to retire.
