View Full Version : Apple-Q sauce

About two years ago I got the idea to mix applesauce and bar-b-q sauce together. Sweetens up the taste of the sauce.

So far I've baked chicken and boneless pork ribs with it and usually get good reviews.

Just use a mixing bowl, put in applesauce and start adding bar-b-q sauce until you get a mix you like. The key is you make it to your taste as the cook. Never fail to ask a few people around you what they think before you bake with it.

The best it ever turned out for us was baking boneless chicken breasts in the mix for a while then "pulling" the chicken to make sandwiches.

It won't be a think sauce like you might be used to, turns out more like a marinade, but in my opinion it is damn good. I imagine using a crock pot and throwing some 'lil' smokies into this would be damn good as well.

Forgot to mention we usually use Sweet Baby Ray's Original Barbecue sauce and Giant Eagle Applesauce. Don't need to get fancy with the applesauce.

Apple sauce and BBQ, never would have thought to put those 2 together on my own but it does seem logical in a weird sorta way :lol:

Thanks Dom, I have some chicken in the freezer now that maybe I'll start to thaw so I can make this!

If you bake it, most of the mixture becomes liquid in the bowl. I think that's why the pulled chicken sandwiches turned out the best, because it just soaked into the chicken and became really juicy.

It's very good, so easy to make and takes the bite out of the regular BBQ just enough to really give it a good, sweet, flavor. I tinkered with how much apple sauce to add, trying it regularly till I found a mixture I liked.
