The quintessential game manager, the reason that Mike Tomlin put him in the game. He's not going to make the big mistake very often, he'll make the safe throws, the high percentage plays, and keep you in the game while eating the clock.

15/22 208 yds. 1 Int.

The interception I can't put on him, Antonio Brown fell down and the pass went right to the defender.

This was a good game for Batch. Get some recent experience in the game, back into the flow, get knocked a bit, and just generally get yourself ready if needed. He does just want you want in a game, and the team believes in him. He won't blow up the stat sheet very often anymore but he will get you those needed but not always easy conversions to move the chains.

Early in the game he was very Ben Roethlisberger like, escaping pressure and making plays on the run, very impressive. You weren't sure he still had those moves in him but he's not done yet. I know he's been been chompin at bit this year to play, and was probably a little bit disappointed not getting to play against the 49ers. He mentioned earlier this week he was expecting to start and then got the word at the last minute that Ben would play. He's just the ultimate team player, and guy you know you can count on in games like this.

This is exactly what makes Batch so valuable. Let the D win the game and just manage the offense. Excellent work by Chuck today.

I was excited to see Charlie get the start today. You never know when you'll need him especially now in the post season so it was really important to get him into the flow of the game. I'm he had a blast out there today.

I was very surprised by Charlie today. Not only did he manage the game, but the old man made some pretty damn impressive throws. 15/22 ain't too shabby for an 85 year old backup quarterback.

steelers 4-1 w/out ben since last yr....those are words the Ben Bashers will say..I admit their is a 'low risk' feeling I have on O w/out Ben...he does have a (very) little Favre in him...but I also understand we cant win playoff games without him...

since the cowher era we are 7-8 in playoffs w/out ben and 10-3 with him....with 2 rings

steelers 78-32 w/ben and 9-6 w/out him in regular season

Charlie was sharp today. He looked Rusty when he played vs the Browns.

Not disagreeing but why does everybody get on him about this? He probably never thought he was going to see the field with robo cop in front of him. I knew this was the case. Week of preparation and he's money. He would have gave us a better chance to beat the Niners.

Good game for sure. But we are done if he has to play in the playoffs. Get Healthy Ben.

Charlie was good yesterday. I'd still rather have Ben of course but under the circumstances, Charlie was ok. The running game won the day...which was nice to see again.

He (Batch) would have gave us a better chance to beat the Niners.[/QUOTE]

we ran effectively against the worse running D , worse Offensive scoring team, worse overall team in NFL, and at Home

dont be fooled by batch....it was a different game.....do I need to get into specifics?

Batch did look good against a bad defense with pathetic offense that could only run decently....
I am not a Batch fan, but in hindsite, I would have liked to have seen against SF...

i love how people try to equate the rams defense against the niners number 1 Defense

49ers defense isn't that great. They look that good because they play in the worse division in football.

49ers will lose their first and only playoff game and then you'll know the truth.

Somebody pointed out that Charlie Batch has a 5-2 record as a starter during the Ben Roethlisberger era, which sounds pretty good, but then I looked at the quality of the teams he's started against.

4-12 - 2005 Packers
6-10 - 2005 Browns
6-10 - 2006 Dolphins
5-11 - 2007 Ravens
10-6 - 2010 Buccaneers
12-4 - 2010 Ravens
2-13* - 2011 Rams

(*: One game left to go.)

Five of the seven teams Batch has started against finished the seasons in which he started against them with double-digit losses. The only team he's beaten that finished with a winning record was the neophyte 2010 Buccaneers.

Roethlisberger's career winning percentage is .705, but he's done it against teams with a .496 aggregate winning percentage. Batch's winning percentage with the Steelers during the Roethlisberger era is .714, but he's done it against teams with a .405 aggregate winning percentage -- and if he starts versus the Browns and wins, and the Rams lose their last game, then his aggregate winning percentage against drops to .352, which reinforces how much of a cakewalk it's been for him.
