View Full Version : If Ben can't play do you want Batch or Dixon

We've talked about this some in another thread but it's really tough decision. Latest reports as of Monday afternoon have Pouncey saying both he and Ben will play against the 49ers.

It remains to be seen if that holds true or not but who would you take, Batch or Dixon to lead this team for the next couple games if Ben either can't go or the coaches hold him out even if he thinks he can play.

Batch could out manage Alex Smith I think, it wouldn't be pretty but I think he could do it, I'd much rather have a 75% BB out there though...

im actually indifferent this time around...wouldnt mind seeing both play actually. the WRs do work enough to get open but what charlie brings to the pass game over dixon, charlie also takes away ANY threat of running against that defense since the backs are gonna have an uphill battle to begin with

I definetly want DD in there. Take the reigns off of him and let him run and pass. That said we all know that Ben will be out there slinging the pigskin unless his leg falls off.

I agree a mobile QB may be better but damn Dixon can't seem to hit the broadside of a barn..

I agree. I would also like to see the defense win a game. I know they are top 1-3 depending on what stats you look at but does it really seem like that? Letting Painter and McCoy shred them and Flacco drive 92 yards.

Both Ben and Pouncey have grade I sprains, with the few extra days rest, they will both play and not be hindered. Ben might have his mobility cut in half, but he's played injured before where he wasn't mobile and proved to be just as good a pocket passer as he is scrambling. Granted we played the Browns, but his second half stats were pretty damn good, 180 yards and 1 TD. I just can't see us winning with wither Batch or Dixon in there. We are a totally different and sub par offense without Ben under center.

Well said. However, given the decision of one or the other, with a lot of 1st team reps, I say Charlie gives the Steelers the best chance to win. Dix can be a running threat, but he is WAY off on his accuracy.

SF doesn't have an intimidating pass defense, so if the Line can give Charlie a chance to make 1 or 2 reads and get rid of the ball, he gives the Steelers their best chance to win - other than Ben.

If San Diego beats Ravens, I'd want to see Ben in there. If Ravens win, put in Dixon and get that kid some experience. Or get rid of him!

I'd go with Dixon

But Ben will play. I just can't see him missing the game, given all the extra time he has to rest up.

Ben is going to play and he should play if the doctors clear him.....When isn't Ben broken going into the play-offs?....This is the norm for Ben....lol

Only thing I say is IF the Steelers build a sizeable lead vs SF, Ben should come out, but only if it is a 3 score lead in the 2nd half.

Not likely, but you never know. Looking at SF, I tend to believe they are hitting the wall. Not that they're not tough, but I see the fatigue in them down the stretch.

Only way you pull Ben out of this game is if we're up at least 20 late in the 4th. We dont need Dixon or Batch coming in on a 10 point lead to throw a pick 6 or take a sack fumble.

If Ben can't play I want 75 straight handoffs.

why is that? Let Dixon throw it like he did in Oregan state.

I'm sorry but Ben is not the only one on that team. Defense needs to step up big this Monday. Big Fat Woodley needs to be running around like a crazy person chasing after Smith.

Dixon was an Oregon Duck........Ben is going to play but if I had to pick between Batch or Dixon....I'm rolling with Dixon rather then old man Chucky Batch........

might as well punt, SF would eat that up...they are monsters against the run, this line isnt busting that open, especially if pouncey isnt playing

They'd probably be monsters against Charlie Batch too.

Yeah, I meant U of Oregon....I am not sure why people don't wanna give Dixon a chance. Charlie Batch is old and his football days are behind him, with all due respect to Charlie.

I really think that if we win in SF, it would be because of our Defense.

Because he's had chances and he's awful

i think they should just trade off....first QB to lead a TD drive wins and stays in for the game. flip a coin to see who goes first

Then why did we not get another qb draft pick and move on last year?

Cause Leftwich wasn't supposed to break his arm in the preseason.
