Steelers' Roethlisberger hurts broken thumb
December, 2, 2011
Dec 27:29AM ET By Jamison Hensley Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger didn't finish Thursday's practice after hurting his right thumb. It happened when he hit his right hand (and broken right thumb) on a helmet while throwing a pass, according to The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Roethlisberger, who spent the rest of practice watching with an ice wrap on his right hand, told the paper that he expects to be fine. His offensive coordinator agreed.

"A little sting on it, nothing major," Bruce Arians told reporters, via The Post-Gazette. "Just ice it down. The last period was mostly runs, just get it healed up properly."

The thumb injury didn't affect Roethlisberger despite the fact that he passed for a season-low 193 yards last Sunday. He didn't appear to have any problems throwing the ball in Kansas City, and it looked like he threw with the same velocity.

An injury hasn't forced Roethlisberger to miss a game since November 2009, when he suffered postconcussion symptoms. A look at Roethlisberger's history of injuries:

2005: Broke right thumb and tore cartilage in right knee

2008: Separated right shoulder

2009: Suffered postconcussion symptoms

2010: Broke nose and fractured bone in right foot

2011: Sprained left foot and fractured right thumb

is it me or does he seem to be getting injury prone since 2008?
on that note he should be fine and ready to go its not like he will miss time i just hate all these injuryes this year

Sheesh. He needs to wear a suit of armor or something. Hopefully he is good to go. If he isn't, this team is in a lot of trouble.

I'm not really saying he is injury prone... he has since 2008 due in part as you stated all the hits he has taken been getting injuryed more often then not, and how many more can he really take though before it starts to knock off time in the pros

The Steelers don't play Baltimore again this season, so I don't see what good a bulletproof suit would be at this point.

I'm sure he'll aggravate it again before the season if over. Even in practice with him wearing a red jersey and not getting hit, it's just something that happens. He's so used to playing with injuries and pain that he probably wouldn't know how to act if he was healthy.

Worse, a case of an OL which sucks... In Bens case OL means "Only Luck" will keep him alive during games

Not worried about this in the least quite frankly. Ben is a walking MASH unit on any given Sunday and he comes out and plays like a freak of nature.

Well seeing that he has been sacked 306 times in 7 years, he should be able to handle this.

Pouncey and Gilbert are a start.........Starks is solid but still the Steelers could use an upgrade in the draft if a top OT falls to them in the first but I wouldn't expect one to fall......David Decastro is a guy I have been very high on.....He has protected Andrew Luck all year and is a very smart players....Plus technically sound and would be a huge upgrade over Kemoeatu at LG.....

Ben was asked before the game how his thumb is doing, he said it's just an annoyance at this point. He showed today again that he's probably better playing hurt or with "annoying injuries" than he is healthy..haha!
