Wednesday news and notes
It appears the Steelers will get linebacker LaMarr Woodley back this weekend to face the Cincinnati Bengals.

Woodley was a full participant in practice Wednesday and looked good moving around.

His return would help bolster a defense that has recorded just 24 sacks this season. Woodley and James Harrison, who have played just three full games together this season due to injuries, have recorded 14 of those 24 sacks.

Emmanuel Sanders said today that he has been told he will continue to return kickoffs this week and he guaranteed that he will do a better job of it than he did last week at Kansas City.

I also spoke to Antonio Brown, who had been handling all of those duties, about it and he said he takes way more of a beating returning kicks than he does punts.

Remember, Sanders was the team's primary kick returner last season and averaged 25.1 yards per return.

Troy Polamalu and Maurkice Pouncey did not practice today, but both are expected to be ready to play against the Bengals.

Gonna be a tough one on Sunday, really need to pressure Dalton into more ill advised throws, and for the love of all things Holy TROY - will you go after the ball this time and not let Green catch it freely? Spear him in the groin. Tecnically, it could be considered helmet to helmet contact, but it's a chance we have to take.

Tomlin said the same thing in his press conference, they want to have both guys available and get Sanders back in the mix. I understand Brown takes less of a beating but his return skills are electrifying. If it comes to a point where the Steelers need a boost you can bet AB will be in there.

Getting pressure will be paramount this week. Dalton may be a rookie but he is playing better than that. Gotta take advantage of their secondary too.

Dalton is well beyond most rookie QB's, I'll admit that but he still makes a lot of rookie mistakes. I've noticed him staring down his receivers, throwing off balance at times, forcing the ball, and of course the interceptions.

That being said he is still capable of having a good day and the Bengals future at QB appears to be set. He will learn from the mistakes this year and also from his successes. With Woodley hopefully coming back the Steelers pass rush should be a full strength and we might actually see all 11 guys on the field together, which should be fun!

My hope is that we can have Woodley and Harrison in there, healthy and ready, and cause that red-headed rookie to do some quaking in his sneakers!

If Harrison is not 100%.... Woodley and Harrison/Worilds would be ok too.

Why do people keep mentioning Harrison not being 100%? Did he hurt his back again? Or do you guys just mean that he is still recovering?

I think they (we) mean he's been pretty much a non-factor...

Good to hear Woodley should be back. If he can create some of the pressure he had been, we should be seeing some more big plays coming from the front seven. So far, this year reminds me of the last year of Haggans and Porter when they just weren't getting there. Always close, but no cigar.

Thank goodness Woodley will be back. He was beasting before the hammy injury. I hope he picks up where he left off and the hammy is 100%. I hope Worilds gets a little PT seeing as he is coming off of his best game as a Steeler by far. This is a great sign that we are getting healthy for the last stretch of the season, now just stay healthy and we will get a 1 or 2 seed in the AFC :crossfingers:

Safety Troy Polamalu fully participated in practice on Thursday after sitting out on Wednesday. Linebacker LaMarr Woodley was a full participant for the second straight day.

In addition, center Maurkice Pouncey returned to practice on a limited basis. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger (right hand) and linebacker Larry Foote (hamstring) were limited in practice.

WR Arnaz Battle (hamstring), LB Chris Carter (hamstring) and WR Emmanuel Sanders (foot) did not practice.

One thing about Woody and Harrison both playing is the QB will have to decide which direction to slide the protection, left or right. One of these guys will have a field day.
