View Full Version : Time to Examine Wallace

Mike Wallace in many eyes had his worst game of the season last night with one huge drop and another that would have been a great catch but it hit his hands nevertheless. In his last 8 games, he has only 1 100+ receiving game and at times completely disappears from the game.

What Gives?
It's clear that defenses are now putting a safety over the top trying to limit Wallace's ability to go deep. As is typical, Arians has been unable to adjust on the fly. After halftime, Ben was able to get him on a couple of routes.

Last night, KC also put safety Jon McGraw on Heath Miller and he did an excellent job limiting Heath to one catch. So where is the adjustment? If you essentially have two guys on Wallace and a safety on Miller then common sense tells you Brown and Sanders have to be open right? Brown and Sanders were targeted a total of 10 times combined last night while Wallace was targeted 6 times. AB had a nice game as did Hines who had 4 catches, but somewhere adjustments just aren't being made.

Perhaps Wallace is getting caught up in the hype surrounding his big start to the season, who knows? Bottom line is that they need to get him the ball more or at least take more advantage of two guys covering him.

Wallace was catching early everything for a while, I think he`ll be fine. But Antonio Brown may be No. 1

I think his press clippings are stuck to his facemask. He will be fine, he is just pressing for that big play that he hasn't gotten in a while.

Steelers did a horrible job of softening up the D for him. The corner was playing 10 yards back, so we should have thrown some quick passes to him to bring that corner up so we could exploit him for a deep pass later in the game.

Instead we used old slow Hines Ward to do this early on! I want Hines t get 1000 but late in games when we have the win locked up, not until then:imho:

Another thing is that he VERY rarely gets single coverage no more, and Wallace is not the type of player who'll go up against Double Coverage and come down with the ball, Megatron style. It does give all the other WRs so much more room to roam in though.

How could we not get anyone open when we had 5 wide????

Still NE dropped 38 on this team last week

No question the 5-wide and even 4-wide was affected by the porous O-Line last night. Still have to wonder why, with KC playing a lot of man, did we not go to more crossing routes especially for Wallace...?

31 other teams in the league would kill to have Wallace. He had a bag game, it's not like he's been sucking for the last month or so. The Chiefs played inspired football, and alot of man to man last night. Normally man coverage means Wallace has a big night but sometimes you just don't the looks or you have an off night.

He'll bounce back and the Steelers will offense will get back into the flow of the game next weekend against the Bengals at home.

He'll be back right as rain. And as fast as wind blows. And as quick as lightning.

I didn't like seeing the drops, but it happens. Hopefully, this was just a matter of being a bit rusty and he will shake it next week. Still, the one would have been a touchdown and the other was at the very least going to be a huge gainer.

Maybe if we gave him a different route instead of GO all the time he would be catching about 7 a game. Give him more slants,wr screens curl routes etc.

Guy obviously had a bad game, it happens. he dropped a TD pass in the back of the end zone (went right through his hands) and he dropped a bomb on another perfectly thrown ball. The offense as a whole stunk last night for whatever reason but at least the Steelers won the game.
