View Full Version : Worilds, Pouncey, and Mendenhall injured in practice

Practice cost the Steelers more injuries Thursday than some games. They lost three players over the course of a two-hour afternoon session.
Center Maurkice Pouncey (left elbow) and halfback Rashard Mendenhall (knee) came down with new injuries, and linebacker Jason Worilds (quad) aggravated an old one.
The Steelers listed their participation as "limited" in practice. Today, coach Mike Tomlin must determine his injured players' status for the game, ranging from "out" to "probable."
Pouncey said he was "fine" but added he did not want to talk about the injury. He has played through two other injuries this season, to his ankle and knee, not missing a start but leaving two games for short periods, both at home, against Seattle and Tennessee.
Trai Essex is the backup center because Doug Legursky is out with a toe injury. Essex said it was the most extensive practice time he has had at the position, and coordinator Bruce Arians said he will be comfortable if Essex has to play center.
Worild's injury assures that Lawrence Timmons will make his third consecutive start at outside linebacker for Harrison, who has been in the locker room this week without the eye patch he wore after surgery to repair his broken orbital bone.

Must be something in the water in Pittsburgh. The Penguins, the Steelers. Always injury problems.

Honestly, the only one that makes me worry is Pouncey. The line needs some freakin consistancy. Mendy and the LB's have good back ups.

There hasn't been much more news at this point so hopefully they aren't serious injuries. Pouncey said he'll play through his. The Trib though mentioned this morning that Worilds could be a scratch, which means Timmons will continue on the outside.

What's ironic here is the players lobbied for less practices in pads, etc. and now injuries are up all over the league.

The Steelers will be without the services of at least four players when they face the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday at University of Phoenix Stadium. Nose tackle Casey Hampton (shoulder), linebacker James Harrison (eye), center/guard Doug Legursky (toe) and defensive end Aaron Smith (foot) all will be inactive.
Linebacker Jason Worilds is questionable, while three others are listed as probable — wide receiver Mike Wallace (hamstring), center Maurkice Pouncey (elbow) and running back Rashard Mendenhall (knee). Nose tackle Chris Hoke, who sat out Friday's practice, is doubtful.

Pouncey worries me. He seems to injure easily. He can't block well with an elbow that doesn't work right. CRAP!

Pouncey is the least of our worries we have china doll 2nd round picks bad OC bad knees oldness

Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey was a full participant in practice Friday and is listed as probable for Sunday's game against the Cardinals.
Pouncey, who injured his left elbow during Thursday's practice, said there is discomfort, but said he will "definitely" play.
Four players have been ruled out for Sunday's game. Nose tackle Casey Hampton (shoulder), defensive end Aaron Smith (foot), outside linebacker James Harrison (eye) and offensive lineman Doug Legursky (toe).
Nose tackle Chris Hoke did not practice Friday and is listed as doubtful. If Hoke cannot play, second-year pro Steve McClendon will make his first NFL start.
Outside linebacker Jason Worilds (quadricep) is listed as questionable and receiver Mike Wallace (hamstring) and running back Rashard Mendenhall (knee) are listed as probable.

what happened to Hoke?? Hoke not playing could be a real problem,he always takes Hamptons place with no let down, not sure if Mcclendon can do that...
the injury to Worilds is the same one, just re-aggravated it, how does that make him injury prone??

The injuries are a bit frustrating.
I bet Worilds is very POed about his. Harrison is out several weeks and he still can't get any game time because of the injury, although, it seems that many people have soured on him already.
Steelers really need to do a better job in the 2nd (and third) round.

Worilds is so injury prone it's ridiculous
i recall ktrain speaking of the glass shoulders from day 1.

The lack of practice time, which the players universally thought was going to protect them, is making them more susceptible to injury by not being in game shape. A classic case of be carefull what you wish for. What have they got to lose by playing Sylvester in a game? . If they could give Fox playing time why not see what S.S. can do?.
