Just curious who heard about Ryan Clark calling some members of the media "retarded", including his co-host on the Ryan Clark Show, Andrew Fillipponi.

The clip can be heard on the following page. http://pittsburgh.cbslocal.com/2011/10/18/ryan-clark-charlie-batch-discuss-close-win-over-jaguars/

Mark Madden from 105.9 The X called out Clark immediately, and also blasted Fillipponi for not standing up for himself.

I listened to this a few times, and I gotta be honest, Ryan Clark is definitely full of himself.

I think we all get too politically correct at times. I also find it amusing that Madden calls out Clark for being offensive when Madden himself interviews porn stars on his show.

Just curious what you all thought about Clark's use of the word.

Wow. I'm surprised to hear Clark talking like this. I talked with him a few times at training camp and he was just a modest guy. He definitely sounds like a jackass on this.

Sorry i don't like Fillipponi at all and when he comes on the radio gets changed almost immediately,I tend to agree...with that being said Clark should know better then to call someone that on the air.

Madden he does alot worse and he just has a sore butt from losing his job over saying ridiculous things over and over again...

I kind of agree. The co-host prepares for the show and Clark throws that in his face right off the bat. His entire "My show my rules" tone really put me off too.

I'll be honest I generally don't waste my time listening to player shows because they're usually boring. This one did nothing to change my mind.

That's what turned me off about it. Instead of saying something like, "actually before we start, I have something to say," when Filliponi wanted to start the show by talking about the hail mary, Clark saying, "what's so great about this being my show is that we have to talk about what I want to talk about," was just classless and condescending and arrogant and annoying.

Clark is usually pretty good with the fans at training camp and what not, as well as when he's on twitter every night answering fans questions, etc. However he's also as you mentioned been known to be a bit arrogant. That's all well and good, whatever floats your boat, however calling someone a retard on the radio is not only politically incorrect but also offensive to many people.

Wow, Really Ryan??

It's obvious that he was upset about being mentioned that he may have contributed to Troys injury. I can understand that, he simply went about it the wrong way and lost his composure. I don't think it's that big of a deal. At least he realized retarded was the wrong word to use.

As far as Madden goes I can't believe he's still on the air. He's should not be talking about anything except the WWF.

He acknowledged that it was the wrong word to use, and then he used it.

Two things about Clark that I dont like: 1. This isnt the first time he has gotten "in trouble" for this. He tweeted that he was worried because his kids ride a short bus. People on tweeter went crazy about him being insensitive to special needs children and on and on. I agree with the people. Clark needs to watch his mouth.
2. Clark blocks anyone on twitter who criticizes his play, yet tweets about how much he loves everyone even the haters. BLAH BLAH BLAH. Ryan Clark is an arrogant jerk who pretends to be something he is not, a good football player. He knows how to "kiss the fans butts" but he is not humble or a nice guy. He even tweeted to Madden that he is important enough to be paid. He reminds me of McNabb this week, who was "shocked he was benched because he has a lot of good football left in him." No, No, No you dont McNabb and neither does Clark.

As long as he doesn't talk about Tom Brady and or call him names I'm fine with him..

And Clark still doesn't get it. Mark Madden tweeted: "If I said "retard" on-air, it'd be on front pg. Wheres Bozo the Columnist? Clark's a Steeler. Laws, matters of taste don't apply." To which Clark responded: "I said to for "anyone" to mention my celebration as a reason for Troy's injury was retarded. The mention not the person."

When will these pro athletes get it. I mean, I've admittedly used that word, but I am trying to stop. But YOU Clark, YOU are on a radio show where anyone and their mother can listen to what you're saying, and you don't see how people could be turned off by how you came off? Grow up. Apologize for being an ***.

Pretty much this. We've discussed this quite a few times now but ultimately there is a large difference between being a middle-class nobody like the majority of us, and a public person whom millions of people look up to and respect.

With some of the boners Clark has made on the field this season, I'd figure the same could be said for him.

i like how we care about him hypothetically calling someone a retard. WHO GIVES! You ask me if i care and i will say, "I award you zero F$#%S, because it does not matter to the play on the field." Worry about whats on the field. I would be more upset if he actually used the PC term "mentally challenged" - which sounds WORSE then retarded. What is he suppose to say? Idiots, Dumbarsses, Ignorant, Full of (fill in the blank). Enough with the PC. It is ruining this country :imho:

When that happens I simply call him an A**Hole, it's more appropriate.

Im saying that Madden shouldnt get upset about Ryan saying retard because he probably uses the word also, just not as open with it(not on the air) like Ryan was.

The use of the word, Retard, IMO is as inappropriate as calling someone the "N" word.

As the father of an autistic son I can tell you I'm not crazy about the word. I understand that the term was widely used back when I was a kid but so was the word 'fag' and I'm pretty sure that isn't accepted any longer either.

What bothers me is Clark's attitude during the entire thing. He comes off as very pompous and makes his 'man of God' schtick look phony. I never really viewed him as anything other than a 'good guy' among players and I won't start hating on him unless he continues to speak so ignorantly.

As for Madden. How that idiot is still on the air is beyond me. He is a complete tool.

Madden is on the air because he pulls in the highest ratings in the city in the sports bracket.

I don't really think this is indicative of how good he is, but rather how GOD F-ING AWFUL most of the other shows are in the Pittsburgh market.

93.7 The Fan has some pathetic talent. Vinnie Richichi today actually suggested "a trade" in which the Steelers give Bruce Arians to Pitt to be their head coach and Todd Graham would become the offensive coordinator of the Steelers.

So let me get this straight. He thinks a head coach who only gives the leading rusher in the NCAA 12 carries on a windy gusty day and puts it in the hands of two QB's who combine for 50 yards passing and 2 TD's, would be an upgrade over Arians.

In addition to the total stupidity of Richichi, he can barely speak clearly. For someone with a job in public speaking, he completely fails at it. "umm ahh and again, you know"

At least Madden is a little bit unpredictable.

The more I hear Ryan Clark on the radio or follow him on Twitter the more and more obnoxious I think he is. I use to think he was a down to Earth dude. He is so full of himself.

I like how he interacts with the fans on twitter, I know they appreciate that. For those that do follow him, he was on twitter before and then quit for a couple of months because he got tired of people ragging on him. Then he came back and everything was cool for awhile but since this year has been a struggle he's had issues again.

He puts himself out there which opens him up to all kinds of ridicule. I usually check out to see what he has to say; he is normally more tame on twitter than he is on his radio show.

Sadly, in the 24/7 cycle of sports athletes are under the microscope and have to be cautious of what they say. I have no ill will towards RC just wish he chose his words differently. I've made similar mistakes for sure...

As for Madden, I have no doubt he knows his stuff, but he reminds me of a young Jim Rome who will do anything for an audience. Rome figured it out so maybe Madden will too.
