View Full Version : Starks to play at RT; clearly the wrong move yet again

The word is that Starks is going to move to RT, and Scott will stay at LT when healthy. That puts Gilbert back on the bench with Essex; both of whom would be the reserves.

If this thought process holds up; clearly the coaches have yet to figure this out once again. You put Max back at his old spot at LT, keep Gilbert at RT. Atleast with Marcus you have potential and an upside to look forward too. You know what you already have in J. Scott and it's not good. I can live with the growing pains that we'll have with Gilbert. I can't live with J. Scott at LT; there's just no sense to keep it up. He's regressed from last year and Ben is getting crushed. As I said this is what the rumors are now that Max is back. We can hope that coaches figure out that Max needs to be on the left side but I'm not holding my breath.

At this point the line just needs to develop some continuity and constantly swapping out players is just going to prolong the agony. Now certainly you can't account for injuries; in those cases your hand is forced sometimes into putting players into situations you'd rather now. This team needs to find some combination of 5 guys that can atleast start and finish the game together and being to develop some continuity.

Wow! Gilbert has been ok I thought. What do they (he) see in Scott?

Dumbest thing I have ever heard. I am so sick of Tomlin and his moves. I will be adding Tomlin to my list of people I want out after this year if he benches Gilbert and continues to let Jonathan, I couldnt block a snail, Scott start at LT.

It was Chris Scott, not Jonathan that was released.

Yeah mine too, but you know Tomlin is in love with Scott, so it means Gilbert on the bench. I really think with Pouncey, Gilbert and Colon back, if we can get a couple of decent guards, our line could be fixed next year.

After the way things were going this year, I've been looking forward to the day the coaches get their act together and bring him back. It's like the old 80's song by Cinderella; "don't know what you got till it's gone".

The Steelers have taken the first step in rectifying a huge mistake by letting Starks go. If he were that bad off when reported, they should have benched him like they did with Casey a few years ago. Cutting him was the stupidest move they've made in a long time.

Although putting him at RT and letting Scott continue to play at LT could rank up there pretty high before it's all said and done.

I think kugler has more to do with this desicion than tomlin .Tomlin seems like the guy who trusts his coaches and will go with his recamandation

When did the Steelers hire a bunch of coaches from the Washington Generals? It's like they have malicious intent with some of their moves. Alright, you bring back Starks. Very happy with the move. Playing him at RT even makes sense, because he could excel there. You keep Scott in, though? Why not play the rookie and get him experience at the position he has experience in? There is absolutely no way he could perform worse than Scott; that's a fact.

Did you REALLY just reference Cinderella?

There's probably some on here who have never heard of them.

scott playing LT is them saying it as a formality...its only a matter of time before he gets hurt from being stepped on after he gets put on his ***, fakes an injury after being put on his *** too much, or just gets yanked from being on his *** to much or failing to get in the way of a defender at all

WTF? Why are the coaches so stubborn? If we all can see that Scott sux, you know they see it too. I don't get why they refuse to make changes.

They dont want to make changes because according to Mike Tomlin no matter who is in there the standard is still the standard. Tomlin expects guys who suck like Scott to perform better then they are capable of even though they have no chance of doing so. My line combinations with Max Starks back would look like this and if they would give this line a try and let it co-exist for a few weeks it might be decent and develop some chemistry. My line consists of Starks,Kemo,Pouncey,Foster, and Gilbert. I'd leave Ramon Foster in at right guard and move Legursky back to the bench. I think a group of those 5 guys gives the Steelers offensive line the best possible chance to be successful this season in the long run.

People have been blaming Gilbert for Ben Getting hit.(on other sites) Correct me if I'm wrong but Gilbert did his job pushing the DE/OLB past Ben. However he need to stay with his block even after he pushes them past Ben.
Ben needs to hit the check downs. He's always looking for the big play. How about we keep the chains moving or you run it without looking behind you and get a few yards?

Only because of the Lockout. I said it last year and I'll say it again. ITS TIME FOR KEITH BUTLER TO BE THE DC AND ANYBODY ELSE TO BE THE OC.

I don't know what to think Steelers.com lists Starks as 2nd left tackle so i think he will play lt against the ravens

I could be wrong, but I'm thinking they don't want to move Gilbert to LT because that means you're making him learn another position and that's asking a lot for a rookie that didn't even get a playbook until late July. I also wouldn't expect Starks to start at any position any time soon. It's reported he's lost like 60lbs, but I highly doubt he's in football shape. Of course an argument could be made that some of the starters now aren't in football shape either. :) Also, and I know people don't like hearing this, J. Scott knows Kugler's system from their time with the Bills, so I'm guessing that's why he would start at LT. I think they'll stay with Gilbert at RT and J. Scott at LT and Legursky will be back at RG. The only way I see Starks breaking into the starting lineup is if there's an injury. I also think no matter what combination of 5 lineman currently on the roster they put out there, people won't be happy. I'm actually more concerned with the run defense right now because if teams just continue to run up and down the field it won't matter who's on the offensive line because we won't get the ball enough to score anyway.

Good news for all of you Jonathan Scott haters. He split time with newly signed Max Starks today at left tackle.

They were reporting all day on the radio that Starks was practicing at LT with the first unit all day...:dunno: It would make the most sense to bring him back there, but I guess we won't know until he actually plays.

Max Starks 6' 8"345 if he lost 60 pounds that means 405 lbs imagine that jesus mary and joseph
i do expect some rust but a rusty max starks is a **** ton better than that scrub scott . Heck i'd move meredith up two second just on principle
I think the best line would be starks-kemo-essex-pouncey-gilbert that's right i moved pouncey to guard he's a good center but i think he would crush the world at guard

id move pounce to guard if we had the other pouncey or get brewster this year or something....essex at center is just something i never want to experience.

gilbert at LT and starks at RT is what we need really, imo flo should have been the one brought back (or both....jeez)

i love how everyones all doom and gloom the sky is falling end of the world...everyone hates the coaches, the front office, and the decisions being made and are bitching about lack of quality players available...yet i bitch about roster moves and draft picks a few months ago and its all shut up k train in rooneys i trust 6 rings wooooo rah rah steelers

I've been praying for Flo to be brought back. I wanted him back this year regardless to play RT and stick Colon at RG where he belongs. A line of Gilbert-Kemoeatu-Pouncey-Colon-Adams to start the season would have been great. I've never been one to bash the coaches, except maybe BA, but these fools are really pissing me off now.

Ktrain. Fire Arians is my motto.

Hes the rotten potatoe spreading death thru the team.

No scoring, 3 point redzone, turn over ratios, OL Players going down taking on the bull rushes for 4 qtrs, defense on the field forever, no first downs....

Never changes his scheme... year after year.. the teams have us figured out...

We will have to change.. then our offense will work. Not sure how bad the casualties will be before we change our game planning. but i figure change is coming sooner than later.

With all the self proclaimed talent and weapons on the offense, if they continue to sputter, there is no way Arians is brought back in 2012.

I've supported Arians as much as I could (good system, numbers, etc.), but playcalling stinks and his aoofense iss much too predictable.

Starks belongs at left tackle, bottom line.

Arians gotta go has been the theme around here for years...What I don't get is everyone calling for Lebeau's head...wtf , I mean his scheme has been great for years and is still being used and copied around the league. Now all of a sudden, with sub par defensive line play,it's time for him to go?? Give him a line that does it's job and the defense works, pure and simple. I'd rather have the originator then some body that copies his system...
