Troy needs to be moved to linebacker in my opinion he is a monster at the line of scrimmage and I think the way he plays safety he always staring into the backfield as it is and blows many assignments i know he's too small but tell me u guys don't feel alot better when u see Troy up at the line

Why in God's name would you do that? He's a 5 time pro-bowler, 2 time first team all-pro a member of the 2000s NFL all decade team and the reigning defensive player of the year, and you want to move him to another position?

If you move him from safety you take away a lot of his roaming capabilities that make him so dangerous.

Exactly, Tomlin needs to reach down and grab some sack, see Farrior and Foote to the bench.

This season is a good season for him to start a game or get into the game for a good amount of snaps. He cant really be any worse speed wise.

I think Ben should play LB too! No team has ever moved the ball on the Steelers with Ben at linebacker............ever:)

That's what they told Derrick Brooks... he had a hall of fame caliber career...

lol But that was a Tampa 2 defense, this is a different type defense.

Troy typically will line up where a linebacker would line up at, but he's usually on the outside, he's never where Farrior or Foote would be in the middle.

Troy also whiffed a few tackles.

That's all I'm trying to say is he makes a way bigger difference when he lines up there he is a monster at the line I understand he's way to small but our linebackers can't seem to locate the ball and when they do they can't make a tackle

Anyone notice Polamalu shifting to ILB on a few plays yesterday? Quite a few times where he and Farrior were in the middle with Clark and Mundy playing safety.

I did see that, I couldn't figure out WTF was going on and who was blitzing, I think Hasselcrack thought the same...

When he does run free in the backfield, look at the huge animals that are on our linebackers. Thats part of the plan. If he were just another LB out there with a tackle or guard on him everydown, he would get pummmeled

Troy as a LB?

o_0

Never in a million years. You do realize that part of the reason Troy is effective when playing at the line of scrimmage is that the actual LBs usually occupy blockers, right? Or the fact that the offensive line has to worry about blocking LBs too. Try imagining Troy occupying a blocker.

Part of the reason that makes Troy so effective is the fact that he can roam around and get to the ball in no time, even if he's at the line of scrimmage. Troy is great at coverage, so plugging him in at LB is a complete waste of some of his skills. He's got fantastic instincts, and he's an ELITE strong safety. No need to have him switch positions.

Troy at safety is the glue that holds our defense together. He keeps QBs guessing, not sure if he'll drop back into deep zone, blitz, take a TE man to man, etc. If he's at LB, there really isn't that much to guess.

How he was used on Sunday, no problem, but on a FT basis, Troy is to osmall and he would eventually get destroyed.

Remember, it was effective because no one saw it before. Once the tape gets around the league, OC's will come up with a plan for when he is there.

I agree with the masses here, would love to see Sly get some reps at ILB.

He wouldn't last long...but hey, he played there a little on Sunday and was pretty effective.
