Timmons signed a six-year, $50 million contract that takes him through the 2016 season and includes $18 million in bonuses. Combined with the six-year, $61.5 million contract signed by fellow linebacker LaMarr Woodley and the four-year, $28 million contract cornerback Ike Taylor signed, they have invested heavily in their defense.
The Steelers and inside linebacker Lawrence Timmons have agreed to a new six-year, $50 million contract.
Timmons, the Steelers' first-round pick in 2007, had been going into the final year of his original deal.
A full-time starter since 2009, Timmons registered a team-leading 135 tackles in 2010. He also had three sacks, two interceptions, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. For his career, he has 291 tackles, 15 sacks, three interceptions, seven forced fumbles and five fumble recoveries.
Timmons, 25, was the second linebacker selected in the 2007 NFL Draft, following San Francisco 49ers star Patrick Willis, who was taken with the 11th-overall pick.
Earlier this summer, the Steelers signed outside linebacker LaMarr Woodley to a six-year, $61.5 million contract, cornerback Ike Taylor to a four-year, $28 million contract, and right tackle Willie Colon to a five-year, $29 million deal.
