LB Lawrence Timmons signed a 6-year deal for $50 million with the Steelers today.

From the PG (http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/11236/1169372-66.stm#ixzz1VwnJEma5)

Timmons signed a six-year, $50 million contract that takes him through the 2016 season and includes $18 million in bonuses. Combined with the six-year, $61.5 million contract signed by fellow linebacker LaMarr Woodley and the four-year, $28 million contract cornerback Ike Taylor signed, they have invested heavily in their defense.

The Steelers and inside linebacker Lawrence Timmons have agreed to a new six-year, $50 million contract.

Timmons, the Steelers' first-round pick in 2007, had been going into the final year of his original deal.

A full-time starter since 2009, Timmons registered a team-leading 135 tackles in 2010. He also had three sacks, two interceptions, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. For his career, he has 291 tackles, 15 sacks, three interceptions, seven forced fumbles and five fumble recoveries.

Timmons, 25, was the second linebacker selected in the 2007 NFL Draft, following San Francisco 49ers star Patrick Willis, who was taken with the 11th-overall pick.
Earlier this summer, the Steelers signed outside linebacker LaMarr Woodley to a six-year, $61.5 million contract, cornerback Ike Taylor to a four-year, $28 million contract, and right tackle Willie Colon to a five-year, $29 million deal.

@AdamSchefter: With Lawrence Timmons and LaMarr Woodley doing new deals this summer, Steelers have given $111.5 million of contracts to their two LBs.

I am so happy. With Wallace not being a UFA next year but a restricted free agent, as he doesnt have 4 years of service, Troy will probably be the only other contract extension they will even consider this year.

Outstanding!! This one came in under the radar, nobody knew they were even seriously working on it. The Steelers linebackers are in good hands for a long time now. Congrats to Timmons and the Steelers for getting it done!

Ed Bouchette is reporting its a 6 year deal not 5

Everyone was wondering how they would handle having to sign both Timmons and Polamalu next year, plus try and ink Wallace to a new deal even if he is only an RFA then. Who would get the franchise tag, who would be the more difficult to sign, etc.

This is a big step towards securing their future. Timmons burst onto the scene the last couple years and his production only figures to go up.

I figured this was being taken care of from behind the scenes. I'm glad that it got done in a timely fashion.

Ok, Woodley and Timmons are locked up. Who's next?

Wow I'm shocked since I didn't see this one coming....I think its a great move by the Steelers and really I'm surprised they resigned Timmons for only $50 million......

I too thought 50 million was a little low but i think the chance to go to the super bowl every year comes into the occasion

When you look at the contracts that David Harris and Jon Beason signed then signing Timmons to $50 million is a bargain........

I want them to extend Timmons before he completely blows up this year. I think they can extend him for reasonably cheap right now, but if they wait til after the season I'm afraid it'll cost a lot more.

Sooo happy they got this done...

Love it. Very happy to see both Woodley and Timmons extended. Wonder if the team will still pursue an extension for Polamalu this season, or if they will wait until the offseason?

08-23-2011, 12:46 PM
Way to go front office! More proof they value LB's more than DB's in our system.

I'd bet a **** ton of money that Polamalu will have to wait til the offseason.

Last I heard they were working on one, but I wouldn't be surprised. I'm sure he wouldn't care, he's not really someone who's driven by money. It's not like if they make him wait till the off season he'll just play poorly.

Timmons was the last big deal this year, I think everyone would be shocked if Troy's deal got done this year yet. It's a popular consensus that his deal will have to wait.

I expect great things out of Timmons this year. He came on huge in 2010, and 2011 he's primed to completely take over MLB in the NFL and not look back.
