Batman, meet Big Ben.

The new labor agreement in the NFL banned teams from practicing twice a day but it says nothing about Ben Roethlisberger and his Steelers teammates practicing for good old "Gotham" on the set of the new Batman movie Saturday morning.

Roethlisberger and about a dozen of his veteran teammates will take part in the filming of Dark Knight Rises playing -- what else? -- football players at a familiar venue for them, Heinz Field. The production, which has been filming in Pittsburgh, moves Saturday morning to the Steelers home, where thousands of extras playing fans have been recruited. The Steelers will return to Saint Vincent College in Latrobe for a real football practice under the direction of coach Mike Tomlin Saturday afternoon.

The Steelers quarterback has become close with Thomas Tull, the film's executive producer who joined the Steelers ownership group two years ago. Tull helped influence the shooting of the movie in Pittsburgh and he's been trying to get the Steelers involved. Chrstopher Nolan is directing the third in his Batman trilogy. The movie stars Christian Bale as Batman and Anne Hathaway as Catwoman.

"I'm kind of getting everybody together," Roethlisberger told the Post-Gazette today. "I heard it's going to be a neat thing at the stadium. I don't think it will be a big part, it's not like we're chasing Batman down or anyting. It's something neat that in 10 years or 20 years we can tell our kids we were in a movie. Thomas does movies big and I'm sure it will be a big-time movie and something fun to be part of."

Among teammates expected to join him are Hines Ward, Willie Colon, Maurkice Pouncey, Mike Wallace, Heath Miller, Aaron Smith, Ryan Clark, Troy Polamalu, James Farrior and Casey Hampton.

There will be an early call for the football-playing actors -- they must be on the set, which is closed to the public, by 7 a.m. Saturday, and this after tonight's practice in Latrobe.

"From what I've heard, it's going to be like a pre-game, warming-up type thing,'' Roethlisberger said of the Steelers' roles. "I don't know the whole concept. There's a Gotham team, a football game. We'll be wearing uniforms. It will be fun."

Pretty badass lol

It is a fitting tribute, especially after last years debacle. I hope this is the beginning of the most phenomenal season ever and we absolutely terrorize the rest of the NFL all the way to the big one.

Wow really???

It is pretty cool that some of the players and so many Pittsburghers will get a chance to be in a big film. Sounds like it will be a good time and welcome mental break from camp for a little bit.

I know back in the 90's many movies were filmed in Pittsburgh. Is that still the case?

They had to get up very early to make it from Latrobe to downtown by 7:00.

Earlier today saw Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises (http://movies.cosmicbooknews.com/content/dark-knight-rises-2012-movie-hub) shoot a big scene at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh with thousands of locas as extras, including Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers (http://movies.cosmicbooknews.com/content/dark-knight-rises-2012-ben-roethlisberger-and-pittsburgh-steelers-film-scene).Seeing how there were so many in attendance, details from the shoot were sure to make their way on to the net.
And they have.
Comic Book Movie (http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/debbiedowner/news/?a=43838) had someone there as an extra and provided some major details along with some pics (italics below is mine).
The Gotham Rogues played the Rapid City Monuments. During the opening kick off, Bane sets off a bomb that blows up a large chunk of the football field and kills the players (My note: Hines Ward was a part of this apparently). The mercs storm the stadium along with bane & he has some sort of bomb. He makes a speech about "the device being our liberation" It all looked really good & it was all filmed with IMAX cameras.

someone already put up about the tumblers, that's false info. They aren't included in the shot at all, only made an appearance to show them off

Not an earthquake machine. Nothing was said about it. It's probably a bomb...remember, they blew up the field so what he was standing on was the remains of the field. The rest will be altered digitally & covered in smoke

Correction: bane says "take control of your city....behold the object of your liberation"

Update: the bane scene was him walking out of the tunnel after the field was blown up. He spoke into a mic he took off a dead referee. He literally sounds like an old man on a respirator. It was hard to make out what he said. Something along the lines of "your city is being liberated..." he had a big object about 5 feet tall, it was a sphere, probably a bomb. Think about the one in the batman movie with two-face at the circus

The explosions werent much so im not too mad about it. Its all gonna be digital effects. It's sooo hot. They are having a raffle now. I think the next scene is bane, they said he comes out and threatens the crowd. I saw a friend of mine who was a merc, he said Tom hardy is super cool to talk to and real down the earth. He said the costumes are awesome. I'll try to snap pictures of him in action.

The explosions just happened, couldn't get a picture bc our section had to run away from it. They just said that the "field will be totally destroyed" and the only part left is the one picture I sent you with the field elevated. They also jus said the 3 tumblers will be brought out again bc "bane stole them" I don't know how true that is, but they announced it so let's see how that rolls

They are filming the football scene now where the players are running & the field is blowing up. There are holes in that plateau the players disappear into

Yes, I think so. Saw Russell Crowe there when he was making The Next Three Days. He was sitting on the patio at McFadden's before a Steeler game - don't think he was going LOL. I think Pittsburgh was chosen for that movie because of the deal with the bridges - it was a key plot point about getting out of the heart of the city in a certain amount of time. Don't live there so don't know for sure but I think I remember reading at that time that they are making more movies there.
