Signed today was free agent OL John Malecki from Pitt.

(http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/rapid-reports/post/15397191)Steelers cut six players to make roster room (http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/rapid-reports/post/15397191)
To make room for the busload of 15 newly signed free agents now permitted to practice, the Steelers released fifth QB Chris Dieker (http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/rapid-reports/player/1855747/chris-dieker), OT Joshua Harrison (http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/rapid-reports/player/1853460/josh-harrison), LS Derek Chard (http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/rapid-reports/player/1853454/derek-chard) and P Aaron Bates (http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/rapid-reports/player/1854833/aaron-bates). Also let go were OL Dorian Brooks (Exempt/Left Squad List) and LB Erik Clanton (Waived/Injured List).

Dieker didn't last long, looks they already know what their plans will be at QB. Dieker was just a warm body for camp and preseason since Dixons status was up in the air.

Stock piling offensive lineman is never a bad idea, you never know what gem you might find in one of these guys. Given the injury problems the last couple years with this group, the more in camp you can have the better.

I had a feeling today a QB would be cut...

The Steelers are set at QB right now, they've got the luxury of keeping Dixon if they want but he's only going to be there for 2011 and then he'll be gone elsewhere. Batch is on a year to year deal for as long as he wants just about, LOL. No reason to keep around a young QB to groom right now, I'm happy with 2 vets in reserve and Ben at the helm.
