Ryan Clark hinted in a tweet that a surprise cut is coming, any guesses? He said "its a blessing to have a job today. Trust is a funny thing! So hard to gain so easy to lose. Stay tuned. You'll see"

Well its not any of the guys they just restructured because that would cause more "dead money" after the restructure.

It's not going to be Ryan Clark, as much as some of you might wish, LOL. Aaron Smith could be on the block though, unfortunately.

Nothing has been officially announced and we don't even know for sure that's what he meant. Ryan would be way out of line to start any real speculation about this.

If it is Smith, he'll be a casualty of the "what have you done for me lately," question. We know that he is a stud when he is healthy, but he has been on the sidelines too frequently to make any positive impact lately.

i'd not be surprised at all if it were smith .. the more interesting question is why would clark foreshadow a cut like that?

K Train

if its smith and they dont bring him back at a discount id be shocked...no question 6.1 mil is too much, but hes still an asset to the team (unlike clark, charlie, and farrior)

that tweet was kind of unusual .. the more i think about it i am not ruling any1 out .. troy is in the last year of his contract .. maybe we get picks before losing him in FA??? i know that is waaaaay out there, but just wanted to throw it out there for more of a general discussion

They said they should be under the cap if all the restructuring is agreed to. Whomever does not want to restructure would most likely be the casualty. I don't know that A Smith would be that much of a surprise. Big Snack?

one of these maybe. Smith , Farrior, Foote

JensK

I doubt it'll be Foote as he is not making a whole lot of money as it is. Farrior maybe but I do believe that he would, at this point of his career, take a paycut rather than being cut.

Agreed. I love Smith as our DE, but there is no way he could even admit that he is currently worth that much considering his injury history of late. I hope he returns at a lower rate.

Because we have a SB to win this year. No way we do this without a healthy Troy

Not following him on twitter but, I am guessing one day soon Mr. R. Clark is going to open his mouth to wide. And then there was Ryan...

Clark talks alot, it's part of his game. If he said something about a cut coming soon or insinuated as much we can't put any stock into until the Rooney's say so.

trade troy for Nnamdi or DRC and a pick then ...jk... im not actually expecting it to happen .. like i said it is "waaaay" out there and it was more or less for discussion sake because that tweet sounded real weird.. besides for a deal to happen it would have had to be for picks in this draft ..

my bet is it is smith .. ive been blabbing about it all off-season ..foote would not be news and i just see them sticking with farrior

I'm surprised that there hasn't been any news about Smith taking a pay cut yet.... There's no way they can justify keeping him at 6 million for 2011. I'm curious as to how his tricep is doing? Has he been in camp?

Woodley's franchise tag acounts for 10 mil against the cap. Get him a long term deal, which will bring his cap number down a ton and restructure Aaron Smith's contract. Now all of the contract restructures (Ben, Harrison, Keisel, Miller) will not be official until later today (because if they were officially restructured before today they would've had to wait 'til today to practice again) so I'm pretty sure those aren't accounted for. We'll be fine.

OVERRATED!!!! How long have you been watching Steeler Football?

If he has been watching for at least the last five years or so, I would have to agree with the overrated assessment. Smith can't be an asset to the team with a blown out shoulder or torn bicep.

This team needs to get younger on defense and if cutting Aaron Smith helps the cap AND helps them get younger, I have no problem with it. I also wouldn't be mad if Farrior got cut as well, but he (Farrior) makes the calls on defense (as does Ryan Clark), so he MIGHT be safe.

I just don't want to see this team get old like the that team in the 70s did and THEN rebuild, instead of rebuilding positions as needed. This is a business. I'm sure that management and the coaches LOVE these guys but they must make sacrifices for the TEAM. They can't allow their emotions dictate their decisions.

So if Smith, Farrior, Ward, Clark, etc. or any other old vet gets cut, it's business....never personal.

OVERRATED!!!! How long have you been watching Steeler Football?

been a fan for 25 years .. more specifically, i have watched every single snap at least twice for the past four seasons since i got Direct-TV and before that i had like a 3 or 4 year streak of catching every game at bars so i am ready for this conversation to say the least ..

aaron smith used to be an underrated player - but that was 5 or 6 years ago when BB came out and said it .. now he is overrated by a bunch of people who try to show football knowledge by appreciating 5 techs ..

idc if he used to be a master of the position, his body is falling apart, his expected contributions to this team on a go-forward basis are/have been seriously exaggerated and that to me is as overrated as it gets
