76ers waive former All-Star Webber

January 11, 2007

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- The Philadelphia 76ers waived forward Chris Webber on Thursday, making the five-time All-Star eligible to sign with another team after clearing waivers.

The Sixers completed the paperwork to buy out the remaining 1 1/2 seasons on Webber's contract Wednesday, ending two disappointing years in Philadelphia. Once he clears waivers after 48 business hours, teams will be eligible to sign him.

Webber missed 11 of the last 14 games, officially with foot and ankle injuries. He was due nearly $21 million this season and $22 million next season.

Webber, the No. 1 overall pick in the 1993 draft, averaged 11 points and 8.3 rebounds in 18 games this season. He has career averages of 21.4 points and 10 rebounds.

Great Move by sixers

He'll probably be picked up by someone else (a contender) and play off the bench as a 6th or 7th man... It's weird remembering these guys coming into the league thinking they will be around forever and now they are getting old and washed up :)

I read somewhere today that Webber may be coming to the Pistons and he is not very popular in this state with all the crap he pulled at scUM, while on the Fab Five.

That franchise will go nowhere until Billy King quits or gets fired.

I rather play for a team that has a shot at winning. Then get paid and stuck in that situation

probably not, that's why he's gonna end up being a cancer, in his mind, he still thinks he has talent, but he nothing more then a has been.......they just better hope he doesn't call timeouts when the team is out..............

I'm a big Pistons fan and C-Webb has looked pretty good in moments of tonights game and his first start. He will fit in good there...
