NT - Casey Hampton - $7.07 million
OT - Max Starks - $7.24 million.
LB - James Harrison - $7.360 million
S - Troy Polamalu - $8.595 million
LB - LaMarr Woodley - $10 million
QB - Ben Roethlisberger - $15.80 million

Now obviously there is no cap right now, and depending on what happens with the CBA talks there still may not be one. If they don't decide on a new agreement they could play under old rules with no cap. Regardless though, the Steelers will build their team as if there is one and these players have the highest values on the team right now.

There's no reason to think that any of these guys would be against restructuring their deals to help ease the burden on that particular year. Remember, restructuring doesn't mean they agree on a new contract or get any less money, it just means that they are paid their due money differently during that season. Normally that entails the player getting a big signing bonus for that season and then smaller game checks each week.

The franchise tag they gave him equals about 10 million for a 1 yr. deal, which he signed. Unless they can redo that deal before the season starts.

ah, i wasnt sure how that was working with the lockout.

he deserves it though, im pretty critical of him but he was making 550k last year, thats so low for a top 15 pass rusher

Yeah, had he not signed the deal, it may not have counted towards this years cap at this point. Since he signed that deal though he counts any against salary cap that would or will be in place. I agree though he deserves that huge pay raise, bringing home 550K last year was way out of whack. I think it's a given that they'll get him inked long term to ease that hit.

It angers me to no end that an average at best tackle like Max Starks makes that much.

The steelers have made only one HUGE error in salery cap dealings as of late..... Max Starks... AVERAGE AT BEST IS A HUMONGOUS COMPLEMENT!!!

in 2 years they spent 15 million on starks by putting the franchise tage on him TWICE!!!
they could have spent that money on a very good FA tackle EASILY!!!
He has been solid when healthy but NOT worth 15 million over 2 years and 7 million now????

don't think so....

Starks will go down as probably the biggest blunder in the Tomlin era, money wise. The way that situation was handled caused so much money to be wasted it wasn't even funny.

Now, Starks is an asset to this team and at the time we had nobody else to play Left Tackle so in that sense I can see them wanting to keep him. When he's healthy he is solid and a better than average Tackle in the NFL.
