Watching one of the million or so NFL Network Top 10 shows tonight, and this episode focused on the Top 10 NFL traditions of all time. This was a replay from back when it aired in 2010 I believe. Various traditions got some recognition; the flyovers of military jets before games was a good one, however the one that was somewhat surprising, the Terrible Towel was #6 out 10.

Now I know we Steelers fans will cry foul because we think it should be #1, and while that point can be debated I do think it should have been atleast a top 5. When they questioned Ed Bouchette about it he said "it's not #1"?

Whether you're a Pittsburgh fan or not, you have to recognize that the towel is one of the most iconic things in the NFL hands down. Whether or not you believe it holds magical powers, there's proof that if you break the 11th commandment sooner or later it will come back to haunt you.

#11 - Thou shalt not disrespect the Terrible Towel.

:plus1: This is true... I bet you there are very few professional sports franchises who haven't gave out towels in their team colors at some point...

Come on, why would they all want to copy it? Every other fanbase thinks the idea of the Terrible Towel is stupid...until they make their own version.

Surprised that stomping on it didn't get a mention on the list. Everyone seems to love to do that.

That was part of the little piece they did on the towel for that show. They mentioned the curse that comes when you disrespect it like the Titans and Bengals did. It was a pretty cool segment of that show, they talked about Myron Cope and had one several guests mentioning the importance of it. They also mentioned about how other teams have tried to copy it but it's just not the same.

Another reason the terrible towel should be higher than 6. How many players on any team actually wave the same towel that the fans do? My guess would be none or very few. Every game you see Steeler players waiving a towel during their intro or on the sidelines to rally the crowd.

How many "rally towels" do you see flying in an F16 jet, or being flown at the top of a mountain? I would venture a safe guess of slim to none.

For those of us who can't get the NFL Network, what was the rest of the list?
