The Pittsburgh Steelers saw what could possibly rank as one of the worst missed field goals in Super Bowl history in their big game against the eventual world champion Green Bay Packers. Kicker Shaun Suisham came in for a routine, albeit 52 yard, field goal, and promptly shanked it to the left. And it wasn’t a few inches from going in, or anything like that, it was quite possible that Suisham was suffering from a bit of double vision during the kick.

At this point I'm all for an open competition for both the Field goal and Punting duties on the Steelers for 2011. While Sushi was very good in the regular season, and I don't knock him for missing that long one in the super bowl, I wouldn't just hand the job over to him. Same for Kapinos, who did pretty well in the limited duty he saw. Once this labor situation gets resolved I would expect them to sign a couple kickers and punters to the roster and let them compete for the job.

Akers was solid for Philly for a long, long, time. If he wants to come to Pittsburgh I wouldn't have a problem with him auditioning for the job.

In the playoffs, I wouldn't say Akers was clutch.

He was also dealing with a cancer diagnosis for his daughter, can't really blame him for not being focused.

with arians and his awesome redzone offense, we need the best field goal kicker we can get. imo..

If for nothing else Akers would fit in with the class acts that the team's brought in recently.

Running the same play through the same hole three times in a row was essentially a Jedi Mind Trick.

Shows an intelligence above that of average NFL coordinators, the man is a freakin' Jedi. lol.

I like Akers...had a rough stretch last year but is otherwise money...as Skippy was for a long while before the bottle consumed him.

Might be on the downside a little but he's an upgrade on what we have. So if all things equal and it's him or what we have, I say Yes. Kickers are hard to predict. So many through the years were written off by one team after a long stay and flourished somewhere else. So it's worth looking at.

i get force fed eagles games...he was terrible last year. weak leg, poor accuracy, and his kid was diagnosed with luekemia....kickers are unstable to begin with, that just makes him untouchable at this point in his career imo

:plus1:I agree, watching almost every Eagles game I'll pass on him.

I'd bring him in just for the competition and see if he got his head straight. Last year was bad for Akers but other than that he was money for the Eagles.

I also think when the labor situation is ended they pickup Kai Forbath for a look see.
