Player ranking and stats (http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1621066)

Top linebacker prospects: 8. Chris Carter, Fresno State, 6-1, 248, 3 While scouts are debating where a few pass-rushing prospects will fit best in the NFL, Carter simply lacks the size to remain at defensive end. The 2010 WAC defensive player of the year finished his career with 19.5 sacks, including 11 last season to go along with 16.5 tackles for loss. Carter has long arms, a muscular frame and a good burst off the snap. He's also a heady player who studied philosophy and pre-law and should be able to handle the mental aspects of a move to outside linebacker. That won't help him in physical mismatches in defending the run and is another prospect who must prove he can handle coverage responsibilities

I'll never complain about them adding LB's to the roster especially pass rushers......

Seems to be really good value here.

The question is, if this guy has a good camp and makes the team... Who is gone? Foote, Fox? Sylvester isn't going anywhere.

I never worry about Linebackers they draft. As long as Keith Butler is the coach, I like the chances of this kid panning out.

Fox and Foote were so dissapointing this year that I am glad to see Butler get some new ammo.

Carter's not going to play inside linebacker though, he's an outside linebacker for us. He played mostly with his hand down in college coming off the edge, so he'll make the transition to OLB for us.

He seems like another robot with a big motor that the Steelers always seem to find.

He's terrible against the run, no way he plays inside for us. He's got a great set of pass rush moves though...love the spin.

Pittsburgh Steelers 2011 Rookie Icebreaker: Chris Carter

With their fifth round pick, number 162 overall, the Pittsburgh Steelers added a position that is pretty much a lock in every draft they will have – linebacker. The lucky man that gets a shot at making the team with some of the best in the business at the position and staff is Chris Carter from Fresno State.

Read the rest here. (http://www.steelerschronicle.com/2011/05/pittsburgh-steelers-2011-rookie-icebreaker-chris-carter.html/)

We should have kept Gibson but it's always good to add a LB and keep pushing the vets.
